Also known as "paloma sabanera" or "paloma boba" in spanish, is a species of bird in the family Columbidae. It is found in the four Greater Antilles: Cuba, Hispaniola (in the Dominican Republic and Haiti), Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. Its natural habitats are forest, woodland, coastal desert, mangrove and swampy areas. It is threatened by habitat loss and illegal hunting.
A group of people approached the fountain to get water and the pigeon did not seem scared at all. I think I remember them closing their eyes for long periods of time, I assume as a sign of relaxation caused by the relatively cool water during the heat wave in Spain.
