Microsoft, for example, cancelled Khan’s email address, forcing the prosecutor to move to Proton Mail, a Swiss email provider, ICC staffers said. His bank accounts in his home country of the U.K. have been blocked.

Microsoft has since denied this, but they haven't released much info on what they say happened instead.

https://www.politico.eu/article/microsoft-did-not-cut-services-international-criminal-court-president-american-sanctions-trump-tech-icc-amazon-google/

A Microsoft spokesperson said that it had been in contact with the court since February “throughout the process that resulted in the disconnection of its sanctioned official from Microsoft services.” The spokesperson added that “at no point did Microsoft cease or suspend its services to the ICC.”

Khan's email disconnection has sparked Europe's fears that Trump could flip a "kill switch" to cut digital services through American tech giants, as the continent seeks to become less dependent on U.S. technology. Companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon and others dominate Europe's cloud and digital services sectors.

Microsoft declined to comment further in response to questions regarding the exact process that led to Khan's email disconnection, and exactly what it meant by “disconnection.” The ICC declined to comment.

They also said that they'll be adding legal clauses that would stop them from doing that, but I'm not sure how much that actually helps in practice.

Hi everyone,

I recently built an app to solve my problem of switching between multiple AIs. I've made it open source for others to use.

If you like the app, feel free to give it a star!

Yattee is a free and open source invidious/piped client for iOS and iPadOS. It’s great for those who want to watch YouTube without the ads garbage. It also supports sponsorblock. It’s a bit buggy, but it still works fine.

I’ve spun up a Debian server a couple of days ago and hosted my own invidious instance. It’s been great so far.

Just a little note, the app looks like it’s struggling with funding/contributions from what I saw on the GitHub and Patreon pages. So if you can code in swift and feel like helping the dev, I don’t think he’ll mind :)

Hey! Recently, I forked and started working on an app that lets you create backups powered by Restic on your Android device.

The original repository was restic-android by Ihns on GitHub.

So far, I’ve integrated rclone and local repositories, so the app now supports S3, B2, REST, local, and rclone backups.

Also, I’ve added ntfy notifications, export/import functionality, and done a UI redesign.

You can check out my project on Codeberg: https://codeberg.org/dawdyd/resticopia

It’s still not completely stable, but feel free to give it a try anyway! 👍

The International Criminal Court (ICC) will switch its internal work environment away from Microsoft Office to Open Desk, a European open source alternative, the institution confirmed to Euractiv.

German newspaper Handelsblatt first reported on the plans. The switch comes amid rising concerns about public bodies being reliant on US tech companies to run their services, which have stepped up sharply since the start of US President Donald Trump’s second administration.

For the ICC, such concerns are not abstract: Trump has repeatedly lashed out at the court and slapped sanctions on its chief prosecutor, Karim Khan.

ICANN's Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC) has announced a report on "the critical role of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) within the Domain Name System (DNS)". The report is aimed at policymakers and examines recent cybersecurity regulations in the US, UK, and EU as they apply to FOSS in the DNS system; it includes findings and guidelines "to strengthen the FOSS ecosystem that is critical to the secure and stable operation of the Internet". From the report's summary:

This ecosystem depends on a global network of maintainers and contributors who are often unpaid volunteers. While many are unpaid volunteers, the DNS space is unique in also relying on a handful of long-lived maintenance organizations. This creates a model based on community collaboration rather than the commercial contracts that define a traditional software supply chain, which introduces unique risks related to financial sustainability for the maintenance organizations and maintainer burnout for volunteers.

These unique characteristics mean that regulatory frameworks designed for proprietary software may not be well-suited for FOSS and therefore could have severe unintended consequences to the stability of critical Internet infrastructure.

Thanks to SSAC member Maarten Aertsen for the tip.

Hi, This will be my first significant open source contribution. A markdown lsp that works as PKMS. It features an interactive graph like one in obsidian.

Currently in beta stage.

Would love your feedback.

And if you like the project consider starring it. I need at least 100 to be able to add it into mason registry for easy installation.

I am personally donating: First to Interstellar, the mbin/Lemmy/piefed client I'm using right now to create this post and second to KDE, even tho I'm a GNOME user, I like that they host their own fediverse instance ( https://lemmy.kde.social/ ), so I support them.

And what projects are y'all do donating to, if any at all?

Keep Android Open

In August 2025, Google announced that starting next year, it will no longer be possible to develop apps for the Android platform without first registering centrally with Google.

This registration will involve:

  • Paying a fee to Google
  • Agreeing to Google’s Terms and Conditions
  • Providing government identification
  • Uploading evidence of an app’s private signing key
  • Listing all current and future application identifiers

Sign the open letter. And get active to help oppose the enactment of the policy in other ways listed on the website. Are there any more ways to oppose this?

I was browsing Lemmy in the morning as I usually do. And I stumbled upon a post called "To all EU/Europe Open Source/Linux Enthusiasts", which is basically a philosophical post about someone proposing a plan to push Linux phones to the mainstream. But I noticed several factual errors, which is fine (please do your own research before you post something), but I also noticed one single piece of information that's missing: allowing local e-shops, like the green alien one, to resell your Linux device on their site.

Leave your thoughts on this down below.
