I spent about 2 days and all night with Google AI trying to get this highly recommended NVIDIA RTX 5050 card installed so I could use it with Blender and it finally gave up on me.
I have a Gateway PC.

It said that the card is "So new that the manufacturer hasn't come up with a working driver yet" and to check back in a few weeks maybe. Surely it can't be serious? How can NVIDIA sell graphics cards without a working driver. I spent over $200 on this card :(. Thank god I managed to get my system working again, it almost broke my Blender installation but found a workaround to get it back, but its as slow as ever. I'm stuck with this card and it refuses to run.

The Catch-22 is that it apparently will only run on the latest graphics driver that "just came out this week" but you can't install it with the graphics card inserted, and you can't install it with it not inserted. It freezes forever at loading Ramdisk. All the earlier drivers won't run it either. Wondering if anyone else has bought this card and if it worked.

Of course I have a older system, not incredibly old but dated. I wanted to upgrade my graphics card instead of buying a whole new PC. Thats where spending $200 sounded smart to avoid spending a lot more on a new PC right. Its hugely disappointing. Thanks for any help or experiences.

Hey friends, I just bought a ASUS Nvidia 5060 ti prime at a store closing sale. I have bazzite installed on my gaming PC and switching out it's old nvidia gpu with the 5060 worked out mostly fine but I seem to have the blank screens on reboot problem that requires a VBIOS/firmware update. Issue is I cannot run the tool or ASUS's tool because both are made for windows. Is there a recommended way to fix this issue in linux? I found some references to a tool called "nvflash" but there's many sources with that name and I am not confident to just try one. Also I'm not sure which VBIOS/firmware version I need. I spent hours at this point trying to find a way to temporarily have windows (windows live usb?) just to run one of these tools but I cannot find a way that works for that either, outside of installing windows over my bazzite install. Any suggestions welcome.

I know I'm like - over a month late, but that incredible CES outro just /.... it stuck with me. I return to it about every week now.

It's got such like - villain-like energy to it, while also having an incredibly well made and synced song and - its supr gud

Now, obviously, if u dun care about AI, ita not as exciting. But if ur in that bubble - just a lil bit - it really grabs ya I feel.

That scene where they first assemble a GPU piece by piece, then put like 40 of them in a server box, then put about 140 of these server boxes in that space while playing ominous spoopy music - its so gud.

Its so very obvious that they're targetting evil cooperations who are willing to replace human workers because of the *economic benefits for *, which I find hilarious. Just like "hey u big tech companies! Com here and get ur LLM training GPUs! Nice and fresh right out of the factory!"

I dun like capitalism, but damn if I were a richselfish asshole capitalist pig without empathy

supervillain 🦹, I'd totally vibe with that.

Anyway - what did you think of that show-reel and the nvidia presentation in general? I liked it quite a bunch and that whole omniverse + video gen stuff I found pretty exciting. But every time that chibi 3D Jensen comes up, I just lose it. This lil man - is just rlli not that interesting and I dunno why they keep using him.

#What is Nvidia Blackwell? Named after David Blackwell, the first black scholar inducted into the National Academy of Science, Blackwell (GB200, which stands for Grace-Blackwell 200) follows the success of its predecessor, Hopper(GH100, which stands for Grace-Hopper 100), which boosted Nvidia’s sales.

For anybody who is not familiar with the naming conventions of Nvidia’s chip world, G or Grace is the CPU used in Nvidia’s AI computing modules called DGX, and B or Blackwell is a GPU, which is an upgrade from the previous H or Hopper.

Nvidia Blackwell and the whole DGXGB200 SuperPOD AI computer Nvidia Blackwell and the whole DGXGB200 SuperPOD AI computer Apart from the apparent benchmark scores that Nvidia proudly wears on its chest, the most assuming part is that Nvidia has taken two dies or chips and just merged them without any loss of computational capabilities, giving birth to GB200, which is insane from an engineering perspective.

One of the direct competitors, AMD MI300, will indeed be shivering when they hear these numbers.

The new Blackwell ship is 4–5 times faster than its predecessor, Hopper. But when integrated into its environment of DGX Module, it becomes a beast and outputs almost 30x the inference performance, yes, not 30% but 30 times, and wait, wait, there is more, all while consuming 25X less power again that is not 25% its 25 times. This allows LLM’s models to train on over 27 trillion parameters. For comparison, the famous ChatGPT 4.0 was trained on 1.7 trillion parameters. Blackwell will be made in partnership with Nvidia’s best friend, TSMC, during a fantastic 3 nm fabrication process. It has 208 billion transistors, allowing data speeds up to 10Tb/sec. Amazing right?

#How is Blackwell(GB200) better than Hopper GPU(GH100)?

The previous generation of AI-optimized GPUs was called Hopper. Blackwell is between 2 and 30 times faster, depending on how you measure it. Huang explained that it took 8,000 GPUs, 15 megawatts, and 90 days to create the GPT-MoE-1.8T model. With the new system, you could use just 2,000 GPUs and 25% of the power.

Blackwell is genuinely a very successful replacement for the Hopper GPU because it builds upon GH100’s strengths and fills in the gaps or limitations, like improved communication bottlenecks for a larger number of racks. It has no Memory locality issues or cache storage issues.

This essentially means there are much lower bottlenecks when sharing data between servers, dramatically reducing the idle time for each GPU on each server. Thus, efficiency is boosted since more stuff gets done in the same clock cycles.

GB200 offers improved connectivity and data processing for AI tasks and is part of Nvidia’s “super chip” lineup, complementing its central processing unit, Grace.

Nvidia will definetly help AI to reach new heights. Click the link to visit and read the full blog.
