Searching it seems (still inconclusively) like the awesome Dracula theme used to be in Mint at some point in the past, but now it's conspicuously absent from both the official themes repository AND the Dracula theme site. Did something happen at some point to cause this disconnection? Or have i gotten it wrong and it just hasn't been on Mint in any "official" capacity (or even extraofficial) at no point?

I'm having issues with the clock, where often it displays the time one hour ahead and then at some point switches back to the correct time.

Has anyone else encountered this and knows how to fix it?

I'm doing an intro course to coding with Python and we're supposed to install Python and Jupyter, the recommendation is to install Anaconda.

I saw in the software manager that I already have Python3 installed and that it cannot be removed. Can I still install Anaconda additionally or will this fuck things up somehow? Or should I just install Jupyter Notebook?

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm a bit lost :P

A new blog post is out from the Linux Mint team going over some recent work, with the newer Cinnamon Menu coming along nicely and a new System Information tool.

For the Cinnamon Menu that's getting a refresh, it's looking really good. They've recently added the ability to move the search bar and the system buttons. While it might not be one of the fanciest features around, the menu is your window into your system and so it needs to work well. Compared with the current Cinnamon menu, it definitely looks and feels a lot more modern and useful.

The Mint team has just released its regular monthly newsletter. This time, we have some exciting updates to share with you. As we mentioned last month, the developers are working on a brand-new menu in Cinnamon — and it’s already getting some cool new features.

More specifically, the menu applet now allows users to move the search bar to the bottom and reposition system buttons within the sidebar. At the same time, there’s a major overhaul of the System Reports tool, now rebranded as System Information.

A couple of days ago I started getting an error message every time I boot my laptop. It says:

EFI stub: WARNING: Failed to measure data for event 1: 0x800000000000000b

Any idea what caused this / what the issue is / how I can resolve it?

I remember watching films on Amazon Prime used to work just fine but it's been a few months since I watched anything and now, for some reason, it doesn't work anymore.

I hear the sound but there's no video - just black.

I tried Firefox, Opera and Librewolf - same Problem, so I wanted to ask here if the problem could be OS-related.

From the research I've done I found that apparently it could be something to do with hdcp copy protection, but I didn't get any error message in that regard.

Does anyone have an idea how this problem can be fixed?

Everything else involving the internet, including updating other packages, works fine.

But updating Firefox always fails, with the following error:

Failed to fetch http://packages.linuxmint.com/pool/upstream/f/firefox/firefox_141.0.2%%2blinuxmint1%%2bxia_amd64.deb 404 Not Found [IP: 208.77.20.19 80]

Any ideas how to fix this?

Turns out it was as simple as

sudo apt update

and then runnning Mint Update again. Now Firefox and whole system up to date.

I am trying to get away from Google and am looking for a decent cloud service that integrated well won't Linux, either by itself or by using rclone.

I tried Proton drive, but it is laggy and overall not very good.

I just need storage, nothing fancy. Self hosting is not an option tough, at this time.

LastOS is a tricked-out version of Linux Mint 22.1 with the Cinnamon desktop and some additional tools to make life easier for Windows folks.

LastOS Linux is a custom remix based on Linux Mint, which comes with its own custom app store called LL Store. Its creator, Glenn Chugg (also known as LiveFreeDead), built it using an OS-remastering tool called Penguins' Eggs, and on that tool's site, he has a blog post explaining how and why he created it.

Oregon State University's Open Source Lab may shut down without $250K in funding. Projects like Gentoo, Debian, Fedora, and many more rely on it.

I use three keyboard layouts for three different languages. On Plasma, for instance, I can either configure two active layouts so that alt+shift alternates between them, or assign a shortcut to switch to the previous layout, which achieves the same effect. I don't want to cycle through all three layouts.

Can I do something similar in Cinnamon? Here, I only found rather wild options like 'left ctrl to switch to layout 1, right ctrl to switch to layout 2,' which are hardly usable.
