When you want to share a image you found on PieFed, don't download and share the image, just share the PieFed link.
This way the people or person you're sharing it with might discover PieFed without you pushing it.

It also works great like this https://www.reddit.com/r/AskTheWorld/comments/1md2npo/what_is_the_best_power_outlet_and_why
(does not work with old.reddit )

This will also improve SEO, and PieFed etc. might start popping up on search engine results more, and people will start to see and trust the Fediverse more.

In case people aren't aware, the annual Fediverse Canvas pixel-placing event is this weekend, starting at July 12th at 4am UTC.

!canvas@toast.ooo

Might this provide opportunities to promote the Fediverse on Reddit, either in something like r/RedditAlternatives, or in individual subreddits?

It could provide a change from the usual "you should try this Reddit alternative" to "come participate in this fun event, and by the way, it's also a Reddit alternative".

While the remaining redditors aren't always the easiest folks to convince to switch over, I feel like there's still a fair bit of love for r/place on the platform. How can we make the most of this?

So far I've been able to ask the following subs to add links to various comparable Lemmy communities:

https://www.reddit.com/r/tycoon/ (I am a long-time contributor here)

https://www.reddit.com/r/adventuregames/

Don't know if it makes much of a difference, but it can't hurt SEO.

I've also reached out to the citybuilder subreddit, but they ignored my message.

Some other genre-specific Lemmy communities that are active (unfortunately, it's mostly me posting, but not always):

Help out if you feel like it or you are a regular on a relevant game genre subreddit.

Now that Voyager supports PieFed, when promoting the Fediverse on Reddit I will be using this going forward

Try out the decentralised Reddit alternative called PieFed, https://piefed.social/
It also has a mobile app: https://vger.app/settings/install

I use it alongside Reddit, and I'm enjoying it more and more, slowly switching over

Some of the biggest complaints people switching over have are

  • Not sure which server to choose
  • No onboarding
  • Too much politics
  • Trouble logging in
  • Bad UX/UI (for a lot of people)

PieFed solves all of this, it has good onboarding, login is real easy you can even login with google, during onboarding you can filter out trump/musk spam, UX/UI is lightyears better for your average user, it has de-duplication etc.

So I wrote a blog post on how I feel we can encourage more people to fedi, and it starts with DON'T TELL PEOPLE ABOUT THE FEDIVERSE, because I'm very clever, or something. Would be happy to get your thoughts on that!

I've been working on a guide to getting started on Lemmy. What do you think I should add?

Just for any people in the future who may be looking at it.
