Transcript:

Charlie Brown is walking next to Snoopy and says "Go home, Snoopy! Go home!!"

He turns to Snoopy and continues, "Go home, I saw! Stop following me!!" as Patty looks on questioningly

Patty comes over and says "He's not following you... he lives in that direction!"

Charlie Brown continues on upset next to a smiling Snoopy

Transcript:

Charlie Brown stands nearby watching Patty and Snoopy. She holds candy in her hand and says to a sitting Snoopy, "Speak!"

As Snoopy sits chewing behind Patty, Charlie Brown walks up to her with his hand outstretched. He asks,"Say, how about giving me a piece of that candy, too?"

Snoopy watches as she replies,"Say, 'Please!'"

Charlie Brown, chewing the candy, says to Snoopy,"Now I know what you always have to go through!"

Charlie Brown walks along with his shoulders slumped. He says,"Boy, am I ever discouraged..."

He continues,"What a life!"

He stops as Patty walks by and exclaims,"Hello there, handsome!"

He walks along upright and cheerfully says,"Ah! It's a beautiful day!!"

Charlie Brown looks down at a sitting Snoopy and says,"Snoopy, lets have a race..."

He says,"We're off!!", and they start running.

Snoopy dashes ahead of Charlie Brown.

The latter stops, watches him go, and says,"Ah, now I can eat this candy in peace!"

Shermy stands looking at Charlie Brown tricycle. The latter stands nearby and says,"I'm thinking of trading it in for a new model"

Shermy stoops to look at it and replies,"You should do all right on a trade-in...."

Charlie Brown sits on the tricycle and says, "I kind of hate to part with it, though..."

He continues,"It always started pretty good in cold weather!"

Patty stoops watching Charlie Brown reach undered the chair in the living-room. He says,"I lost a penny underneath this chair..."

He kneels on the floor and watches her lie on the floor and look under the chair. He says,"If I had my flashlight, I could see it"

She stands up and looks down at him sitting. She asks,"Why don't you get your flashlight?" He replies,"It's in the attic..."

He stands up and concludes,"And it's so dark up there I can't find it!"

They stop and she asks,"Did you, Charlie Brown? Was it a nice dream?"

They sit on the curb and he replies,"I'm not sure..."

He concludes,"I slept through most of it!

Shermy and Charlie Brown struggle to stand on the ice in their skates. Shermy says,"Watch it!"

Shermy says,"Oops!" as he starts to fall. A shaky Charlie Brown says,"Careful!"

He falls down next to a fallen Shermy.

He sits up and says to a kneeling Shermy, "Let's jump over barrels!"

She walks off saying,"I wonder who it can be?"

She opens the door and sees Charlie Brown. She says,"Oh, it's you, Charlie Brown..."

He looks at the reader as she walks off saying,"I thought it was somebody important!"

She walks towards the voice as it continues,"Somebody call this dog!"

She stops by Charlie Brown where Snoopy is sitting on his tie. Charlie Brown asks,"Why don't you call him?"

She says,"Maybe he's maladjusted" He asks,"Do you think it could be his environment?"

He comes back and says,"His shoes are too tight!"

He continues,"It looks like Patty's my only hope..."

He leans forward and whispers to her,"Psst..Patty! See if you can start a filibuster..."

He runs along to throw it down the lane.

The ball klunks on the bowling lane.

As the ball sits unmoving on the lane, Shermy exclaims,"Rats! I never get any distance!!"

The first time the famous invective "Rats!" appears in the strip, while Shermy is seen in alone for the first time
