The first known Palestinian child to be killed in an Israeli prison, Walid Khalid Abdullah Ahmad, was starved, had untreated diseases, and was repeatedly beaten by guards before he died last month, his autopsy report shows.

The autopsy shows that Ahmad suffered from “extreme body muscle and fat wasting, evidenced by a sunken abdomen,” caused by “extreme, likely prolonged malnutrition,” reported Defense for Children International-Palestine (DCIP) on Thursday. His body also showed evidence that he had been beaten on his chest and abdomen while imprisoned, as shown by air collection, the group said.

At the time of his death, Ahmad also suffered from diseases like scabies and colitis, which likely caused diarrhea and dehydration. He had a number of abrasions and cuts, present on his nose, chest, hip and neck.

His autopsy was conducted in a facility in Tel Aviv. Israeli authorities are withholding his body from his family.

“Walid’s autopsy indicates that Israeli prison guards systematically starved and abused him for months until he finally collapsed, struck his head, and died,” said Ayed Abu Eqtaish, head of DCIP’s accountability program.

"Without attracting much notice or protest, Israel increasingly is using the tools of war familiar in Gaza — tanks, airstrikes and massive destruction and displacement — here in the West Bank. Human rights groups like B’Tselem call this the “Gazafication” of the West Bank."

"New video evidence relating to the killing of 15 Palestinian rescue workers by Israeli forces has emerged, contradicting the Israeli account of the attack on a medical convoy in Rafah last week.

The footage, which was retrieved from a phone belonging to one of the medics who was killed, shows the Israeli army attacking clearly marked Red Crescent ambulances that had their emergency signal lights on, and emergency medical workers wearing reflective vests."

UN Extends Francesca Albanese’s Mandate despite Pro-Israel Pushback - Palestine Chronicle (2025-04-05)

https://www.palestinechronicle.com/un-extends-francesca-albaneses-mandate-despite-pro-israel-pushback/
———

“The United Nations Human Rights Council has voted to extend Francesca Albanese’s mandate as Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories for another three years, despite sustained pressure from pro-Israel governments and advocacy groups, including the United States.

“The decision came on Friday, during the final session of the UNHRC’s 58th meeting in Geneva. Albanese will now continue in her role through 2028.”

“... Albanese has repeatedly accused Israel of ethnic cleansing and genocide in her reports and public statements, drawing praise from human rights advocates and ire from Israeli officials and their allies.”

“One of the most vocal campaigns against her has been led by UN Watch, … accusing her of promoting antisemitism and ‘terrorism’ in her capacity…”

"Amid what the United Nations has described as a “concerted policy to destroy Gaza’s healthcare system,” the Red Cross and Red Crescent said it was the single deadliest attack on their workers anywhere in the world since 2017. Gaza’s Civil Defense, likewise, called it “one of the most heinous massacres” they have witnessed."

Germany’s Deportation Crackdown: A Media Roundup (The Third Draft - Hanno Hauenstein, 2025-04-05)

https://hannohauenstein.substack.com/p/germanys-deportation-crackdown-a
———

“Earlier this week, I broke an investigative story in The Intercept“

“The piece reveals how the #Berlin immigration authorities have ordered the deportation of four foreign nationals … (citizens of the U.S., Poland, and Ireland) – citing their involvement in pro-Palestinian protest actions.

“Crucially to the story, none of the four have been convicted of any crimes.”

“… what makes these four stand out is the reasoning: the authorities explicitly invoke #Germany’s Staatsräson – its “reason of state” – to justify the expulsions, pointing to the state’s proclaimed commitment to Israel’s security.”

“The investigation sparked more reactions than I could have ever anticipated…”

Abadleh’s condition deteriorated, when she began experiencing abdominal cramps. The next day, she woke up to a sharp pain and feared the worst... Her husband rushed her to a private clinic nearby, but it was too late: she had suffered a miscarriage."

On Friday March 21, eight israeli human rights organizations* published a call in Haaretz daily newspaper to oppose the Israeli government’s policy
(original as attached).

English translation from B’Tselem:

No to the Israeli government’s policy of death

Tens of thousands killed, entire cities destroyed, millions of people starving, hostages abandoned to suffering and death — all this has not satisfied the bloodlust and urge for destruction of Netanyahu and Ben Gvir’s government.

For the sake of political survival, and in the name of its all-out war on the Palestinian people, the Israeli government is willing to continue committing the gravest of crimes.

This is what a dictatorship looks like: a leader willing to trade in human lives for his own personal interests.

Now is the time to say loudly and clearly: we will not follow him into the abyss.

We must oppose the death policy led by the Netanyahu–Ben Gvir government.

During the Eid el-Fitr, the holiday at the end of Ramadan, Muin Abu Al-Mehza, 58, would usually celebrate together with his family and go visit relatives, as per tradition.

Muin has two sons and two daughters. One daughter moved to Kuwait with her husband. But his other children live close by, and his oldest son, Sami, 31, built an apartment for his family above Muin’s home.

The holidays were always a time for celebration for the family, as it generally is for everyone in Gaza.

But the past two festive seasons have been anything but joyous in the besieged and devastated coastal territory, home to 2.3 million people now facing starvation and Israel’s genocidal military violence again.

Last Ramadan, Muin’s family was struggling with an acute shortage of food. They had been displaced from their home and were struggling for shelter, warmth and water.

"An Israeli air strike on Khan Younis has killed at least 12 displaced Palestinians from the same family, relatives told Middle East Eye, as Israel expanded its offensive on Wednesday to seize "large areas" of Gaza.

“They were hanging out at our place, and wanted to wish their mother a happy Eid,” Basma al-Qaoud, a relative of the victims, told MEE.

“They left, and an hour or two later, we receive a call telling us the Bari family home was bombed, which was the home they were renting.”"

Israel’s use of artificial intelligence (AI) in its ongoing assault on the Gaza Strip – aided by tech giants such as Google, Microsoft, and Amazon – is fueling concerns over the normalization of mass civilian casualties and raising serious questions about the complicity of these firms in potential war crimes, according to a leading AI expert.

Multiple reports have confirmed that Israel has deployed AI models such as Lavender, Gospel, and Where’s Daddy? to conduct mass surveillance, identify targets, and direct strikes against tens of thousands of individuals in Gaza – often in their own homes – all with minimal human oversight.

Rights groups and experts say these systems have played a critical role in Israel’s incessant and apparently indiscriminate attacks, which have laid to waste massive swaths of the besieged enclave and killed more than 50,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
