General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in [email protected] or [email protected]
More serious politics should go in [email protected].

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

“This is obviously a worrying time for families across the UK, which is why we remain determined to get bills down in the long term.”

Just continue to struggle to survive for the next few years people, and then everything will be dandy.

Then reform get in and things really get bad

It’s interesting that terms like “Awful April” and “Cost of Living Crisis” are so rapidly adopted. I’m convinced they are thought up in something like a Civil Service or lobby group PR panel and then given to media. Both terms assure us that these things are short-lived and not usual when we know that “Austerity” (a less reassuring one) is now a permanent state of affairs. This is the way it’s going to be forever. Unless we go for the pitchforks and torches.

Get a bump in pay and it immediately all goes to cover increases in bills/essentials. No better off than this time last year...

I've had two effective pay cuts and am currently in negotiations for an actual one, which is looking like it won't happen.

I should count myself lucky that I can stand still...

Why are our electric costs so high? We're always hearing how cheap renewables are and how we're using more renewables than ever, yet our bills keep going up? What gives?

The providers like money and are able to keep asking us for more.

Managed to save 13% on my energy bills and lock that in for 16 months. Now to crunch down on my broadband and mobile charges.

Small beer compared to all the rises you have no control over but every little helps, I suppose.

At least your water bill isn't the best part of £1000 so the company involved can pay dividends...

Luckily, I'm with United Utilities who will only be raising bills by 32% each year for 5 years. Which is a bargain! I think.

Not to worry, I'm sure my whopping 2% rise will cover that.
