Only fools would buy or use Oracle products. They will only ever fuck you over.

The pricing for the 2038 patch is going to be steep.

[–] Evotech@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

They didn’t know that when they hard locked themselves into oracle 20 years ago

I'm sure Larry will be just fine

Yes they laid these folks off for the express purpose of funding more datacenter buildouts because they were not funding banks willing to to loan them the capital.

I'm so glad I never pursued Oracle DB as a career, I was considering it at one point in the early 2000s, even went to school. I would have been making a good $100k+ a year instead of struggling along, but at least I still have a soul :P

I mostly used postgres in my work but we had one master server that had to be oracle for reasons so I took a class. The class mostly taught me that I wanted nothing to do with oracle.

One rich asshole called Larry Ellison

In other words Oracle bosses do something very scummy and blame it on AI, hoping people will be angry at it instead of where the blame really lies.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago

This fascist piece of dickskin is just as dangerous as Thiel and musk.

[–] NullPointerException@lemmy.ca 26 points 6 days ago

And then they release a Security Patch Update, but don’t release the patches needed until a week later. So I had a document urging me to install an unavailable patch.

Fuck that shithole company

[–] Bread@thelemmy.club 9 points 5 days ago

That's a strange move while other companies have already said this doesn't work and are hiring people back. Of course the people they hire back are H1B contractors at lower rates with less benefits. AI is just an excuse to lower wages.

[–] mereo@piefed.ca 18 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It seems Larry wants to be alone with his AI.

[–] lemmyng@lemmy.world 5 points 5 days ago

Then I hope he dies alone in an AI-psychosis induced spiral.

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 13 points 5 days ago

Your first mistake was working for Oracle. They've always been a shit company.

[–] greyscale@lemmy.grey.ooo 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Is there anyone left at Oracle?

The best thing that can come out of the implosion of Oracle (other than the influence death of the Ellisons) is that Paramount might escape the grasp of his brother.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 17 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

The reverse should be hilarious. Anyone reading this applying for jobs there should not take a fucking offer below premium, because that's what they are trying to do.

[–] onlyhalfminotaur@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Oracle is in a really bad position financially on ai. Is this the beginning of the downfall?

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

No they are banking on the digital ID dystopia across the uk and Europe

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 12 points 6 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

~~That’s 10,000 medium-sized businesses closed overnight.~~

~~Goddamn.~~

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

Crap. No. I mean ten.

Okay so i don’t work in accounting! Oof.

[–] inari@piefed.zip 8 points 6 days ago

It's going to embrace bankruptcy soon at this rate

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago

That's good, I guess? Most businesses who license Oracle should see their rates go down considerably. Right? /s

[–] Microtonal_Banana@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 days ago

And now they will probably raise prices too.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Gotta fund those data centers somehow.
