Weird way to say "murder."

[–] Bubs12@lemmy.cafe 9 points 23 hours ago

*Attempted

The 42-year-old man, who could not be reached immediately by the Sun-Times, was shot once in the left leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was in good condition, officials said.

[–] falynns@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago

So "attempted murder" because he's bad at both driving and shooting.

[–] veganpizza69@lemmy.vg 7 points 1 day ago

So... 2 weapons.

[–] Zacryon@feddit.org 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, I would feel totally safe in a country where every idiot can get weapons.

[–] hateisreality@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

In Florida you don't even have to prove to the state you can safely handle a gun to have a concealed weapon on you

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 22 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You know in this particular situation I don't think the car was the main problem.

[–] Zink@programming.dev 8 points 1 day ago

Yeah, it could be because of our car culture, not the cars themselves. Or maybe it's just good old fashioned lack of mental healthcare.

People spend SO much money on their damn cars, and often treat them both like a second home and a part of their personality.

[–] Magnum@infosec.pub 7 points 1 day ago

Well the car didn't murder the guy

[–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I personally use my car keys to scrape any car that gets in arms reach while i'm crossing a crosswalk

"If ICE can do it why can't I?"......that guy probably.

America is such a shithole.

[–] traxex@lemmy.dbzer0.com 69 points 2 days ago (7 children)

Absolutely. Lost my job recently and started having to drive again and let me tell you every single driver is some form of psychotic. It’s insane.

If the pedestrian had a gun, this never would have happened.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Idk, the crosswalk would be still unarmed - needs some movement-sensor gun turrets.

[–] Frostbeard@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Imagine that there IS indeed a company that caters to such needs

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Note to Aperature Marketing:

This was a triumph!

Next up: driver sues the family for damages to the bullet.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In Europe a few years ago a driver sued the estate of the cyclist he killed for the damages to his BMW.

In Ontario, driver sues family of person he killed for the trauma.

[–] VampirePenguin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

It WOULD be a BMW driver.

[–] NateNate60@lemmy.world 91 points 2 days ago (4 children)

As the pedestrian began walking away, the gunman, wearing a black hat and a black and white striped jumpsuit, parked on Canal Street and began following the 42-year-old before pulling out a handgun and shooting him in the left leg, police said.

He'd best get used to wearing that kind of clothing for a while.

Kicking or hitting a car that’s almost run you over is a hard instinct to stop. Like, I don’t bang on them or anything in anger, but just the instinct to fling out an arm or a leg to shove it back is intense if you’ve never been caught unaware by it. Escalating to shooting over that is nuts, also kind of nuts that he was in an actual car and not an emotional support truck, which is the kind of vehicle I usually expect the terminally carbrained to drive.

glad I live in Canada where if I do this, when somebody nearly murders me in a crosswalk after they blow the stop line on a red light, that the worst that'll happen is they'll try to get me to come back into traffic and fight them, but they'll be too pussy to pull over and park and come over to me.

[–] lifeinlarkhall@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Aussie here and yeah, someone here nearly hits a pedestrian and it'll be pedestrian: throws hands up in wtf gesture, shakes head and the driver will either be like fuck I'm so sorry or return the same gesture and perhaps swear out the window as they pass.

Ah, the privilege of not having to do a double death dodge in one interaction. If they don't get ya with the car they don't get a second chance here!

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 35 points 2 days ago (8 children)

Enjoy your attempted murder charge, asshole.

Carry a few used AA batteries instead and throw them at the back window after they’ve passed. That way you have time to get away.

[–] inzen@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Why AA batteries specifically? I have not tried it but they seem soft.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

yeah, i think large ball berings would be more usefull and less annoying in your pocket

In California, since 2003, ninja rocks have been explicitly listed as burglary tools, and their possession with intent to burglarize is a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in county jail and/or a fine of up to $1000

Lol

[–] inzen@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Oh that makes sense, any mineral harder than glass will do probably. Even hardened steel. Maybe a drill bit, a tap, a mill, a metal file?
