Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

In the last frame you can see the security guard in between them, so this must've happened right next to him. So typical of Nazis to be intentionally provocative only in spaces where they assume they won't face retaliation.

until they're the majority :/

[–] tburkhol@lemmy.world 62 points 4 weeks ago

They're always the minority. They require an enemy to continue, so they create ever smaller circles of 'true believers' and ostracize everyone else.

Except they never will be. Even as dark as things seem, the objective numbers and actions show that there are more good people out there than bad. They want you to think that isn't the case so you give up.

the objective numbers and actions show that there are more good people out there than bad

However, you can pretty easily get into situations where the 'good people' stand by and do nothing, allowing the bad people to do very bad things.

Going back to the OG example, even at the height of the Nazi regime's power, only about 30% of Germans were actually Nazis. But when the majority of 'good people' don't stop them, that's more than enough for them to exert absolute control over a country and commit horrible atrocities.

They want you to think that isn’t the case so you give up.

Well, going by historical examples, that fucking works.

being outnumbered doesn't mean you lose.

"You won't. No balls."

Narrator: "He did, indeed, have balls."

A kid was trolling an anti-ICE protest at his school while livestreaming and got himself punched by a fat kid.

It was pretty epic. Top 5 epic anime fight scenes for sure.

We don't know his name. We only know he doesn't tolerate boot lickers.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 7 points 4 weeks ago

I like him already

[–] Ironfacebuster@lemmy.world 14 points 4 weeks ago

"I support ICE!"

"I'm gonna punch you in the face"

"You're gonna punch me?"

"Yeah"

"You'll get in trouble"

"Ok."

I really like this guy ! He delivered.

[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't think he actually managed to hit the face though

[–] HotDayBreeze@lemmy.world 4 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

I feel like that was a tactical feint. The whole warning was just setting up the Nazi to defend the wrong front, then go for the gut punch. Our boi is a strategic genius.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 22 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Dude that got punched made the mistake of thinking just because there aren't consequences of being a Nazi online meant that there also weren't consequences to being a Nazi in person.

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 13 points 4 weeks ago

Dude looks like he controls fire.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 10 points 4 weeks ago
