Please don't fuck this up

Oh hell no. My heart isn’t ready.

[–] roofuskit@lemmy.world 0 points 2 months ago

That's good because you know Avery Brooks had no part in anything Star Trek. If your heart was ready it would definitely be disappointed.

Past the JemHadar Commandant, and Nog's name on the wall, you mean?

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That Nog is listed as a lieutenant...

[–] SaltSong@startrek.website 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Which is the rank he held at the end of DS9, I believe.

I would like to think he made captain, but we didn't see it.

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The problem is that promotions were given to other characters off screen, including Admiral Harry Kim.

[–] SaltSong@startrek.website 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

A consideration, certainly. It might be because the actor passed?

Nog made Captain in STO. It's not all cannon, but I like some of it better than actual cannon.

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 3 points 2 months ago

Nog has been more highly regardrd outside of the wall than on it. He was considered to be capable as a captain both in STO and even in DS9 when they had some future episodes.

I'm just noting the goddamn wall.

I love 90s Trek as much as anyone, but does anyone in the 32nd century ever stop and wonder why so much of the history anyone ever cares about occurred in the relatively short (and ancient by then) timespans of 2256–2293 and 2364–2379?

[–] bgainor@thelemmy.club 7 points 2 months ago

Like, the "Wall of Heroes" or whatever it's called really shouldn't be 90% people we've heard of before.

[–] ValueSubtracted@startrek.website 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You don't think the mysterious disappearance of a war hero who was also entangled with non-linear, godlike beings would be interesting?

[–] bgainor@thelemmy.club 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Of course I do, and I love DS9 so I'm excited for this, but also, I'm sure lots of other interesting stuff also happened in the intervening 800 years.

[–] ValueSubtracted@startrek.website 4 points 2 months ago

At least we'll always have Turner.

[–] TeamAssimilation@infosec.pub 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Let me guess: the protagonist would be an until now unknown but close Sisko relative that behaves very much unlike a career Starfleet officer.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 2 months ago

or a "big bad" at the end of a season, turns out to be a very poorly thought out plot.

[–] TwodogsFighting@lemdro.id 0 points 2 months ago

Sisko shoots everyone dead out of embarrassment.

[–] itsathursday@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Why is the trailer cut off and vertical, is this new Star Trek narrowing the vast expanse of space into a few inches?

[–] ValueSubtracted@startrek.website 4 points 2 months ago

They seem to be tailoring the SFS previews for the social media crowd, with no "standard" formatting.

I suppose you could argue it's targeting a specific audience, but...it's weird.

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Set memberberries to kill.

[–] Einskjaldi@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Ds9 would be completely insignificant that far in the future

[–] usernamefactory@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

You’re talking about the sacred home of The Emissary of The Prophets. I wouldn’t be shocked if they kept the place around just so Bajorans could go there to pray for his return.

[–] ValueSubtracted@startrek.website 8 points 2 months ago

It's only sitting next to a portal to the other side of the galaxy that also happens to be the home of a species that exists outside of linear time - nothing significant there!

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It depends on if the station survived that long bring operational and if it survived the Burn.

I doubt that DS9 would be the main station serving the Bajoran wormhole even if it was preserved.

[–] ValueSubtracted@startrek.website 3 points 2 months ago

DS9 ran on fusion power, so in theory there wouldn't have been any dilithium in use (though the same couldn't necessarily be said for docked or orbiting ships).

But I tend to think the station itself should be gone by now, unless they decided to preserve it for historical reasons or something.

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 2 points 2 months ago

Earth has been known to keep Starbase 1 around for centuries and that space station has nowhere near the historic significance as Deep Space 9 did for Bajor.

I doubt it would have been kept as the space station serving the Bajoran wormhole, but I could see it kept in the system preserved as a historic ship.

That is of it didn't blow up due to the Burn.
