Hey there, I'm currently trying to publish an app to the Play Store, but apparently need 12 people to beta test it first, and it sadly seems only 3 of my friends use Android. Can anyone else share tips on recruiting beta testers? Thanks!

Friends and family, or just 12 devices with unique accounts.

I've tried all my friends and family, and have only come up with 3 people out of those. Everyone I know seems to unfortunately be on iOS.

I think there's a subreddit for those, check the androiddev sub for links.

Why do you need 12 people to beta test? It's not a play store requirement.

This is what I currently see in my app console:

Interesting! I just published an app for a new company not long ago and didn't have to do this. Is the Google account you're using new, or is there some sort of verification step you can do?

The account I'm publishing under is super old (like literally just my first name old, lol), but this will be the first app I've ever published.
There doesn't seem to be any way to bypass this step. None that I've found, anyhow.

Odd. The only thing I can think it might be then is that the company had a business account instead of a personal one. That might be something you can do more easily than finding 12 testers.

Or unfortunately it could just be Google randomly deciding to make things harder.

It was added 1 or 2 years ago, can't remember when. Also not sure if it's for new apps or new devs

I just submitted a new app for the first time under a new dev account a few weeks ago and didn't run into this though, that's why I'm confused.

Do you have testing requirements yet?
