Ah, new stargate, from the studio that brought us roaring successtories from long-loved classics like Wheel of Time and Lord of the Rings...
Stargate
A place to discuss the Stargate Universe
I will just treat this series as an entirely new franchise. I expect, and hope, that the old canon won't be touched anyways.
Edit:
Veteran Stargate writer and producer Martin Gero created the show and will helm it as executive producer and showrunner. Fellow Stargate alums Brad Wright and Joseph Mallozzi are also on board as producers. The new series will continue the franchise with the same universe, canon, and tone that made Stargate a global hit.
Maybe there is a chance
The new series will continue the franchise with the same universe,
Sure, I see that happen.
canon,
Strong doubt, unless they mean "some hints of the canon".
and tone
VERY strong doubt.
I want to be exited about this, but Amazon.. .
!
Wow, been waiting for this for a long time. Brad Wright wrote the pilot just before the pandemic, but Amazon shelved it in 2022 when they bought MGM.
It's apparently a brand new pilot written by Gero, with Wright and Mallozzi onboard as creative producers.
To me this means they'll hire some new talent (giving new writers the same chance they got with SG1 and Atlantis back in the day), but the creative process will be bound to the oldschool masters who know what makes Stargate tick as a franchise.
So excited, hope it turns out well!
Oh that’s cool
Reads title and studio
Damn…
It will have a massive budget and be terrible, I fear.
If we don't get at least fifteen separate episodes set in the same grassy field we riot.
And then get cancelled when it doesn't beat out Game of thrones ratings.
Or worse, this happens early even though it turns out decent, opening up new or forgotten ideas, and has fan support.
The problem with Stargate is that it is more limited in how it can explore new parts and times of the universe (like Star Trek has) because of its very nature. Both spinoffs tried to do this, yet got pulled right back to being connected to the original - Atlantis being better at it, those damn stones in Universe is where I started to lose interest, I wanted them to be lost.
with wot and lotr amazon is not looking good on the put out a quality version of an ip. it might help its not from a source material and just has to follow established cannon.
I am in pre cringe based on the name of the show and its fucking amazon.... But dammit I will watch it.
Recently revisited SG-1, still enjoy it, but holy shit the amazon version has FULL FRONTAL NUDITY in the pilot episode. My family and I were not ready for that shit! I never knew it was originally a showtime show, I was fuckin shocked. Fair warning for anyone who's like "yea this is from cable tv days, it will be family safe".
Us Americans should really stop being such prudes, I know the scene you're talking about and it's not bad or even sexual lmao
“yea this is from cable tv days, it will be family safe”
Well people get shot and blown up in pretty much every episode as far as I remember so that might be worse to show your children than one naked woman.
American values.
People gunned down, slaughtered, tortured, violated? I sleep
Single booba? Real shit.
tbf there was a fair amount of bush visible too.
Luckily that's the only frontal nudity bit
