Nearly 15 years ago I was sworn in as a U.S. citizen. I took (and still take) that oath seriously, not just as a practical ceremony. Tr*mp and his enablers and puppetmasters are oathbreakers. In a little more than 100 days, they have worked daily to destroy the U.S. government, the people, the structures that Americans have worked for decades to build to further peace in the world and support people in ALL their complexity. They dismiss the Constitution as an inconvenience; mock people's truly held faith with bad AI images, cruel behaviors, and usurpation of "Christian" trappings; undermine human rights, starting with trans people and immigrants (but it won't stop there); and so much else. U.S. history is complicated, a blend of atrocity and true greatness and everything between. The United States has never fully lived up to its ideals, but the ongoing efforts to get us closer to those ideals are the source of our greatness. The people currently occupying the White House are rapists, liars, thieves, and abusers. They see our beautiful national parks as resources to tear apart, hollow out, and poison; our people as bodies to break in service to them; our ideals and beliefs as tools to twist and manipulate people with. I don't know what their motivations are--greed, ego, twisted faith, some combination of these--but ultimately it doesn't matter. Their actions declare them to be enemies of the United States and of humankind in general. We should treat them that way.
