Dumb, isn't the whole point of notepad that you see the text without any graphical interpretation of the source contents?

ok, I just checked. They are using markdown and they have the option to not show it as formatted. Considering this is a very common format (Im using it now to write this comment) and you can view it as plaintext, this is actually a useful feature.

I guess, but Windows already ships with more rich-text editors like Wordpad. When I'm using notepad it's because I want to see the pure raw unformatted text.

So removing features to repackage them and brand as new?

Slightly more convenient i guess so that's a rare win for microsoft
