Do they not have update test beds? I feel like this is such an important system they should have caught this. It's not some obscure feature.

I remember reading somewhere that they used to have much more testing (including a room filled with hundreds of different computers that they tested every update on). With Windows 10 they abolished that and switched to relying on telemetry. Which is obviously working great.
