I'm rather tired of this executive order nonsense. Can things really be changed so easily with an EO decree? If so, things are severely broken.
Legally? No. Effectively? Yes.
They are indeed 😮💨
An executive order is a directive to the executive branch of the federal government. Nothing more. The POTUS is given broad discretion over the executive branch under the US constitution. But, executive orders are not laws and do not apply to anyone aside from the people who effectively report the president.
Not that directives from the president can't have a tangible impact. They certainly can. This particular tantrum, however, does not and will simply be ignored by everyone else.
Having the president replaced with a prime minister elected by congress may happen if the DSA gets their way
EOs are meant to be policies or orders on how to manage some power or other that Congress assigns to the president to manage something. They are instructions on how to do something or an order for federal agencies to carry out some action. Trump is just blustering.
Scotus has been reversing lots of them. This will be as well.
