First time offense. Clearly an accident. No intentionality. Exhibited remorse for the actions.
This isn't a shockingly low sentence. It's completely normal. It's a tragedy, but sentencing her to life in prison isn't going to bring the family back.
The estate can still sue her in civil court.
Which is why the charges were vehicular manslaughter instead of murder.
Driving 70mph in a residential area is completely negligent. Operating a motor vehicle comes with legal responsibility.
Yes, it was negligent. Absolutely. Yes driving a motor vehicle comes with responsibility. Absolutely. Which is why the judge took away her driver's license.
Sue her in civil court. This isn't deserving of a life sentence.
I swear. Progressives can be the most bloodthirsty people.
Drive 70mph in a residential neighborhood, killing a family of 4? Accident, no big deal, just suspend the license for 3 years
Think justice should be served that is typical for the severity of the crime? BlOoDtHiRsTy!!!!!!
The only bloodthirsty person involved is the woman that killed 4 people by treating a neighborhood like a highway.
If, one day, it's you facing charges for a very very bad accident, you are going to be really happy that courts aren't a blood thirsty as you are.
I won't ever be doing 70 fucking miles per hour in a residential zone so if anything bad happens it will indeed be an accident and its much less likely to be lethal.
What ever happened to hoping for equal treatment under the law for everyone? You can't hold a high standard against others and expect a lower standard for yourself. That mindset describes one of the worst aspects of our society at the moment.
If I ever killed an entire family by crashing at 70mph in a residential zone, 20 years in jail wouldn't be adequate punishment in my eyes. I'd be offing myself out of shame and guilt as soon as possible. Fuck that. How could anyone ever live with the guilt? The level of negligence is so fucking high that its almost incomprehensible.
Nah, if I killed a family of 4 due to my negligence, I would absolutely deserve to face justice and owe that justice to my victims.
This was not a freak accident outside of her control. She made the choice to drive recklessly and endangered others' lives, resulting in their deaths, which she is responsible for. Otherwise, she wouldn't be guilty of manslaughter at all. Accidents are not the same as negligence.
Characterizing justice as "bloodthirsty" is ridiculous and you look foolish.
I understand that conservatives lack empathy and compassion for others, so your brain only operates at a depth of "but what about if I commit manslaughter one day??? I shouldn't be held accountable for my choices!!!" but welcome to society, we bear responsibilities to each other.
