The mega-rich are using the Iran war to get even richer. The Iran war has cost Americans $72 billion and shot up gas prices by 50%. Corporate executives are price-gouging, rigging investments, and trading on insider information to cash in on the crisis. This is warflation. At NYC’s Israel parade, Sen. Chuck Schumer bemoaned the “constant anxiety” that Israelis feel over being expelled from the region. @ranikhalek fires back: “This is a multi-millionaire, very successful leading US senator. He is the leader of the Democrats in the Senate, whining that he needs a “just-in-case” settler fascist state.”

The key driver of “social disorder [and] violent crime in particular is inequality.” After the rioting in Southampton, investigative journalist Paul Holden argues on Novara Live that police forces are having to deal with “a social fabric that is in serious strain after 40 years of Thatcherism.” Meanwhile, the political right is extremely skilful at creating narratives of “white grievance” out of isolated incidents, in order to serve “the most extractive forms of capitalism”.

“This is the stuff of demagoguery… this is rubbish”. On Novara Live, investigative journalist Paul Holden dismisses far-right claims that the death of Henry Nowak in police custody is evidence of a “two-tier” culture in which white people’s rights are less important than those of ethnic minorities. Bodycam footage shows how, on the night of his death, police ignored and dismissed Nowak repeatedly telling them he had been stabbed. His killer, Vickrum Digwa, had lied to the police, saying that Nowak racially abused him. “As a single data point, it doesn’t bear out broader, deeper analysis” that “white people are under the thumb” of diversity policies, Holden said.

Rioting broke out on Tuesday night as hundreds gathered outside Southampton police station to protest the murder of Henry Nowak, who died in police custody in December. The crowd outside the police station was addressed by far-right figures who claimed institutional racism against white people from the police was to blame for the death of Nowak, who was studying accounting at the University of Southampton. Tommy Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, told the crowd: “If Henry wasn’t white, he wouldn’t have been handcuffed.” Footage shows protesters throwing traffic cones, bins and stones at police officers wearing riot gear. One officer narrowly avoided being hit by an e-scooter which had been thrown from a height, according to one report. Protesters carried signs bearing the name Henry Nowak. Hampshire police said that 11 officers had been hurt in the rioting. Two arrests have been made with more to follow, police said. Nowak was stabbed to death by 23-year-old Vickrum Digwa. Digwa falsely told the police that Nowak had racially abused him. Bodycam footage from the night of Nowak’s death shows he told officers, “I can’t breathe” at least seven times and was ignored. After Digwa was jailed, Nowak’s father, Mark Nowak, said the family did not want the death of their 18-year-old son “to be used to create further division, hatred or tension. We want his story to help make our streets safer for everyone.” However, political figures including Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and shadow home secretary Chris Philp have ignored this and used Nowak’s death to claim that there is a “two-tier” policing system.

At least four people were killed and 127 injured when Israel bombed the Jabal Amel Hospital in Tyre, Lebanon on Monday. The attack, the latest act of aggression against Lebanon’s healthcare sector, came as Israeli national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said Israel must “flatten… and completely destroy” Lebanon’s suburbs. The World Health Organization said on Tuesday that it had verified almost 190 attacks on healthcare in the country, “which have killed 128 healthcare workers and injured 332 others. The past week alone has seen 11 attacks.” Tyre is among the worst-hit regions, with two out of three hospitals badly damaged and a third overwhelmed by an influx of injured patients.

“Ruto, shame on you!" Activists in Kenya slammed President William Ruto for failing to address the country's femicide crisis. The activists were part of thousands who marched in Nairobi Monday, demanding governments across the African continent take serious steps to protect women amidst a rise in femicide and child disappearances. The protest was the largest against gender-based violence in recent weeks. It followed the murder of singer Rachel Wandeto, who was set on fire by three men on May 16 and died two days later. Advocacy groups gave the government in Kenya a 40-day ultimatum to declare a national crisis or face escalating demonstrations.

Dublin protesters rallied outside Arnotts department store on Saturday, demanding justice for Yves Sakila. Sakila was a 35-year-old Congolese man killed by security guards in front of the store May 15, after they pinned him down over an alleged shoplifting incident. Sakila has drawn comparisons to George Floyd, the Minneapolis man killed by a white officer in 2020, whose death ignited a U.S. uprising against police brutality

The massive protests at Delaney Hall didn't come out of nowhere — people showed up in solidarity with those detained inside, who are on an ongoing labor and hunger strike to protest inhumane living conditions and demand their release. The New Jersey private detention facility is run by for-profit company GEO Group, which relies on our tax dollars going to fill their cells, then keeps the profits they make for themselves. GEO Group made $254 million in profits last year, a 700% increase from the year before. Delaney Hall alone is expected to generate $60 million in revenue each year. “The British government’s position is antisemitic.” After being banned from travelling to the UK over his criticism of Israel, US commentator Cenk Uygur tells Novara Live's @NoJusticeMTG that some of Zionism’s staunchest supporters are smearing Jewish people by pretending they all support genocide. He said polling suggests a large number of Jewish Americans oppose Israel’s mass killing in Gaza. “When you say that all Jewish people are in favour of Israel’s genocide – and hence if you criticise Israel’s genocide, you’re against all Jewish people – you’re greatly smearing Jewish people,” Uygur said.
