Raccoons

“Shirley the raccoon had her toe amputated after it was badly broken and had started to become infected. She has such a sweet temperament that she's been a foster mom for us!

These two babies were found running along a busy road with no mom in sight (likely hit by a car). Shirley may not be their biological mom, but she loves them and fiercely protects them. What a great foster mom!

Wild animals will often foster babies that aren't theirs: we've seen this with raccoons, opossums, squirrels, and fawns too! Birds and bunnies will take care of anything that shows up in their nests, showing us they have no predjudice and just want to be good parents! If only we humans could learn from them.

The plan is to release them together, where Shirley came from, once they are big enough for the babies to have all of their vaccines like mom. For now, they get to live in relative peace and comfort while the babies grow and learn from mom.”
