I was trying to add a Matter device from my phone but it kept saying I needed to install the companion app from the Play store even though I was in the companion app (from f-droid). I've installed the Bluetooth proxy app as well but it made note difference.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Sorry if I am being a bit thick, but I have now subscribed to Nabu Casa and the remote access works great over the web, but I am confused how the companion app is meant to work. I assumed it was meant to “failover" to remote access when I left the home network. What am I missing?

My homelab is connected through an already existing wireguard network, with one server acting as a central hub for a bunch of other nodes. So all nodes can communicate to eachother by just knowing this central hub.

I would like my home assistant to join this network, which on most distros just means installing wireguard and wireguard-tools, plopping my config into /etc/wireguard, and running systemctl enable --now wg-quick@homenet. But I can't figure out if the OS on the HA Yellow have a package manager, and it doesn't seem to use SystemD. So what would be the best way to install it and connect on boot?

There is a Wireguard addon that I'm sure works wonders, but it seems to me that it's meant to act as this central hub that I already have. If I'm wrong and this addon can be used to connect to an existing network I will happily use that, but last time I tried it I couldn't get it to work the way I wanted.

Edit: to anyone who can add Socks 5 support to the app and get a pull request accepted I'm offering the equivalent of $84 in Monero which would be a year of what I would pay for the cloud subscription

So I just learned that apparently Home Assistant has absolutely no user account control. My roommate has no need to access the lights, electrical outlets, etc. in my room, and has absolutely no reason to be able to see my phone's battery charge level and charger status.

I currently have an ADT system and am looking at ditching it for a HA green with zigbee adapter and doing motion sensors, door/window sensors, smoke alarms, etc over zigbee in HA. The roommate would like cameras and i would like something that doesnt require an account on a company servers that could go bankrupt or phone home. Any suggestions?

Edit: While I doubt it, would it be possible to continue using the ADT sensors with HA instead of having to replace them all? I am assuming they are proprietary garbage and won't work, but being proved wrong would not be a bad thing.

edit 2: my idea so far

• HA Green (currently running on a Pi 4 just to get a feel for HAOS)
• Reolink home hub (for managing battery wireless cams and storing video recordings
• reolink Argus 3E cameras and possibly the doorbell (they detect motion, stream video, and have a floodlight which may get exposed to HA as entities under each cam device)
• HA ZBT-1 (for zigbee/matter devices)
• zigbee door/window contact sensors

I'm using a run of the mill motion sensor in the living room that turns the lights off after a certain duration of no motion (unless the TV is on). Sometimes the lights turn off when I'm still in the room because I'm stationary.

I know people seem to like the mmWave sensors for this and I'm considering getting a Screek 2A from eBay.

I'm curious if anyone here has used one. Thanks!

We've been wanting to set up Music Assistant and now since we started using ProtonVPN, Apple Music is constantly blocking our account.

Do you have any recommendations for a music service that works well with Music Assistant and from behind VPN?

Is anyone aware of a sensor (preferably Zigbee, I think), that will give me an idea of when I need to change my furnace air filter?

I am picturing something that maybe sits on the "clean" side of the filter to measure...pressure? Air quality? I don't know.

Anyone try to build a bed occupancy sensor integrated with Home Assistant? I've looked into load sensors but all of them seem to have pretty small weight limits (low enough to where I don't think it would even support the empty bed).

What devices/sensors have you used for this? And what does your setup look like?

I'm currently setting up my Home Assistant Green and so far most things work fine - I've been able to migrate all my Zigbee accessories over and also managed to get Matter/Thread working using the Connect ZBT-1.

There is one accessory that I just can't get to work though and that's my Eve Motion blinds window cover. Pairing them via Thread worked perfectly fine and basic diagnostics seem to work too, however I'm unable to control it in any meaningful way like opening or closing the blinds. The respective actions just aren't available. Some basic functions like identifying the device work though. When I used them in my old Home Kit Home (also via Matter/Thread) with my Home Pod as my Thread border router they worked without any issues. This leads me to believe there might be some sort of misconfiguration I don't fully understand and that the device interview function is unable to fix on its own.

Did anybody manage to integrate them into their home yet or has any other suggestions on what to do?

Anyone else finding their z2m mesh is going slow? Can’t work out the cause, wondering if it is related to recent patch.

I'm wondering what people here would think about Home Assistant's stock UI getting a bit of a facelift? I know you can customize to your hearts content, but I've always found stock Home Assistant to be a little hard on the eyes. Its not bad in my mind, just feels a bit dated and static.

Anyhow, wondered if anyone here has thought the same. I'd welcome a face lift.

I'm trying to remove the Hue bridge from my home network but can't seem to get Home Assistant to find the bulbs over Zigbee. Even the Hue app can't find them unless I use the "use serial number" method.

• I deleted the lights from the Hue app
• I factory reset the lights (using dimmer switch method)
• I clicked "add device" in home assistant... aaand nothing. Just "Searching for Zigbee devices…"

I thought the problem might be wifi interference but I turned off my 2.4ghz network and still nothing.

I have other Zigbee devices successfully connected to my dongle, (Sonoff) and I can pair the bulbs with Hue bridge, but only using the serial number method.

Any ideas as to what might be going on?

Update: To any future readers, I set up Zigbee2Mqtt and everything works really great now and pairing was a breeze.

This should be of interest to anyone using ESP32 devices currently and is seeing the influx of the RISC-V ISA devices coming up.

Hopefully the future of IOT might include device drivers that can't suborn devices like the ones for the ESP32 can, by compartmentalizing memory space on the device, and auditing the compilation of such drivers.

I know this probably comes up a lot and I’ve done some reading but it’s a little overwhelming so I thought I’d just post to help me get my thoughts together. I want to set up HA primarily to start using it with Frigate and give me remote access to my cameras but I might as well double down and get everything on this. I like the idea of clever houses and I’m glad there’s a good option for doing it locally with decent FOSS solution.

So in my network I have a sort of DMZ network. This network has all those dodgy IoT devices on it and it’s basically an untrusted network with internet access. I then have my normal network with everything else on it, like my laptop, phones, home server, etc. I’m planning on installing HA in a Podman container (Docker) on my server but I’d like to have some remote access so I can check out my cameras, 3D printer, and maybe a few other things, I’d also like to be able to receive notifications. However I still want to be able to run it normally without too many complications so I’d like it internal to my trusted network.

I’m thinking about the possibility of running two containers, one on my trusted network and one on my DMZ. I could sync them up or give them access to the same storage areas maybe. Is this possible? ChatGPT suggested it so I’m not sure if it’s worth pursuing. If not what are my other options? I basically want all the positives of having it on the internet with none of the negatives, how hard can that be?

The ubiquitous ESP32 microchip made by Chinese manufacturer Espressif and used by over 1 billion units as of 2023 contains an undocumented "backdoor" that could be leveraged for attacks.

The undocumented commands allow spoofing of trusted devices, unauthorized data access, pivoting to other devices on the network, and potentially establishing long-term persistence.

This was discovered by Spanish researchers Miguel Tarascó Acuña and Antonio Vázquez Blanco of Tarlogic Security, who presented their findings yesterday at RootedCON in Madrid.

I just ordered the Voice PE to play around with, and I was wondering if it's possible to run the processing of Speech on a different device. I have a HA Green that runs my instance and I'm guessing the processing power is a bit low. However, I also have a small homelab server running that has a lot more power (Ryzen 5 2600) and it would be great if I could just forward all the speech processing to that server.

If it's possible, is there a guide for it out there? Didn't really find something unfortunately...
