Cockdust, by Anchoress (2025) (anchoress-official.bandcamp.com)

Blowing away the dust of the past, Cockdust uncovers the parallel history of female magic: as fragile, as furious, as timely. The lyrical "I" takes on different roles and characters, moving beyond the individual to talk about shared collective experiences. Cockdust’s central figure, Hairy Mary, is an ancient sex worker turned saint from the 4th century, symbolizing non-conformity and transformation. Through songs like Song of the City of Women (a hymn of resistance), Anxious Clown (a search for transcendence in late-stage capitalism) and Toys of Grace (critiquing male-centric love songs) the album explores themes like faith, identity and the disconnection that many feel in modern society.

Cockdust was recorded in 2023 by Adam Asnan mixed by Carlos Flores, with additional production by Martin J. Fiedler (Josh T Pearson, Anika, Crime and the City Solution) at Klangbild Studios Berlin. The album will be released on March 7th with the preceding single and music video Brave Men released in November 2024.

The LP collects ten haunting, ambient soundscapes - incantations of dreams and nightmares, of death and grief, as well as power and autonomy. Carnal, transcendent cello drones are used to exorcise historical and generational traumas in an evocative and macabre piece of gothic experimentalism.

Seeking solitude for what she knew would be an intense and cathartic writing experience, Trappes travelled to Scotland and isolated completely. Amidst meditative and psychedelic states, she channeled demons and accessed parts of herself she’d long desired to cleanse. ‘A Requiem’ is a musical service in honour of the dead, a sanctuary Trappes built for herself to explore familial chaos and history.

The album is a raw, spiritual journey. Astonishingly vulnerable, and a compelling examination of loss - the threat of it, the meaning of it, the coming to terms with it. Across an album of breathtaking compositions, we are asked to bear witness to a sacred personal experience like no other.

I'm not a big fan of a lot of Gothic metal. But this song and video go hard. Between the vocals and the tune. Harkens back to the heavy metal stylings of the late 70s early 80s. 🔥🤟🔥

Definitely a more heavy sound than the last several albums. But still unmistakably the Birthday Massacre. Definitely drawing more from their industrial roots. Where the last several have been much more synth-pop. But I'm listening through the album and it's all great so far.

Though I may be biased. I've always really liked this group. So much so that I once wore a Birthday Massacre shirt not even thinking about it to one of my niece's birthday parties lol.

Some pure Fields of the Nephilim worship from Sweden. Even though it's almost a straight copy, I'm pretty fond of this band and the album is great.

If you like your goth with gators Astari Nite may be for you. They have a great sound often between London after midnight and fellow Floridians the cruxshadows.

This video is the first in a series on the genre Industrial I'm planning, discussing the albums and as a proud member of the Vinyl Community, showing off and unboxing my Vinyl! Let's go!

Do you agree, who would you add or remove?

This was a true dancefloor killer in my scene at early 2000s.

Psychic TV, where sound, ritual, and rebellion converge to shape a new reality. Born from the ashes of Throbbing Gristle, this sonic alchemy, led by the visionary Genesis P-Orridge, blurred the lines between music, mysticism, and the untamed landscapes of the mind. A band, a movement, a force that shattered conventional boundaries with transformative soundscapes, the birth of Thee Temple ov Psychick Youth (TOPY), and the creation of The Psychick Bible. With their words and music, they invited us into rituals that transcended art and philosophy, calling forth a collective awakening.
