A few weeks ago, I posted here asking for help to leave Japan under threat that my son would be further abused and that I would be deported or worse. Thanks to a number of you, we got out and we made it to Ireland. I cannot thank all of you enough for your shocking generosity and the promptness of it which let us relocate just in the nick of time. It will never be forgotten.

Right now, we are being fed and given basic toiletries, but there some food & personal items that we have to provide ourselves. And I am flat broke now.

We both need warmer clothes, and my son needs bigger clothes. He also needs diapers, wipes, and various food items since he can't always eat what's being served at the shelter. We're not allowed to cook for ourselves and food cannot be stored in our room, so everything we buy has to be ready to eat and eaten outside or in the dining hall.

To be clear - we're no longer in imminent danger, we won't starve or become homeless. This is for if anyone wants to help us prepare for winter and make things easier for my little guy. To give you an idea of what I was regularly buying for him and the prices:

Repeating purchases:

  • bananas (bunch) - €3~5
  • boxed fruits (such as grapes) - €4
  • juice boxes - €3
  • crackers - €2~5
  • take-out meals - €15~20
  • diapers - €6
  • wipes - €2
  • tissues - €3

Things that only need to be bought once:

  • Winter jacket - €30 each
  • Pants - €15~30 each
  • Child's hat, glove, and scarf set - €15
  • Child's pajamas - €10
  • socks & underwear - €10~15

Stupidly, the only way I can receive money at this moment is MoneyGram, even Western Union will not work given the current situation. The reason for this is because my passport is being temporarily held until my application is completed. Western Union will not accept my Japanese ID for identification, MoneyGram will. I realize that really narrows down the number of people who could realistically help, but I have no working bank accounts or electronic services until our registration process is completed. And that could take weeks.

If you are willing to use MoneyGram (either going into a physical location or using their website), or if you know of any other safe and reliable alternative that I'm unaware of, PM me and I will give you the necessary details.

Once we are enrolled in financial aid, I will take this post down. If you have any questions, just ask here or message me. Thank you for your time.

Hello. My friend, @stamets@lemmy.dbzer0.com, is about to become homeless in just 24 hours-He's short on 700$CAD for this month, since he's spent this entire month looking for a roommate; and "found" one; only, this roommate did not have the money to pay rent anyway, and would have made everything worse. > > So here we are. Winter is coming and he'll be homeless for a whole month. He is in Newfoundland, it'll be incredibly dangerous for him and i am concerned. > > Please, if you have even a dollar to spare, i ask of you to donate to him; anything helps. https://ko-fi.com/stamets > > Thank you. ❤️

Things have gotten pretty bad for me. I won't be homeless or anything, but the power is about to be shut off. Water, too. If anyone has anything extra they'd be willing to donate - that would be amazing (I will reciprocate this when I can!).

If you'd like for this to be donated to a project I'm working on, please check out https://fosswars.thecomicseries.com/ - it's a whole thing. It is based on the universe you may know from !unix_surrealism@lemmy.sdf.org and https://analognowhere.com/

I'm working on continuing that comic, but it is hard to weave an entire wiki's worth of surreal lore into a laterally based comic.

An Update from Stamets (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

Few days ago I made this post asking for help because of an unpleasant situation that was scaring the shit out of me. I asked for $1000 to $1500 in order to cover bills and the half of rent that my former roommate would have normally covered.

I wasn't expecting much of anything. Maybe a couple of hundred. I certainly wasn't expecting $1922... almost breaking $2k is... Well it was overwhelming. I've cried a stupid amount in the past few days. I've also been trying to figure out a way to word this post that isn't going to be terrible. I've got nothing. All I've got is unending gratitude and thanks... Not only does this take care of the bills and the rent, but it even gives me a small cushion to sit on in case of another emergency. Not going to lie, I was tempted to buy Dying Light: The Beast because my god those abs but not until I got a roommate and a stable situation. Besides, never know when a Steam sale will hit that, maybe sooner than I think.

Thank you all so much. I don't know what else to say other than just thank you a thousand times over... thank you... I love you all

By the way, feel free to stop by my new Trek community although the name might be a bit familiar.
