This is a grey area for piracy since you need to own the ebook but... you also don't really "own" anything purchased in digital distribution and this is removing DRM from that. Suffice to say, if this were Nintendo they would try to sue you so it is probably more piracy than not.

Confirmed working as of a few minutes ago since I wanted to rebuild this with KVM.

Based on https://www.reddit.com/r/Calibre/comments/1c2ryfz/ and comments thereof.

  1. Create a new virtual machine. I recently used KVM directly but also had success with Virtual Box.
  2. Install Windows 10
  3. Disable internet access for the VM.
  4. Download and install Kindle 2.4.70904 (SHA256 2e2e4e5bb9fd585947244a4a62ce5baca47818c439d0213cc9a5a96f9a692119) from https://kindleforpc.s3.amazonaws.com/70904/KindleForPC-installer-2.4.70904.exe
  5. Run the Kindle app and disable updating (Tools > Options > General > disable "Automatically install updates..."). Optionally change the save path.
  6. Run the batch script disable_k4pc_download.bat (SHA256 656fbabfa9d1bb3fd1160100391fbf3886597633178e37cffcffe747d3b66567
) under step 2a at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=361503 to ACTUALLY disable automatic upgrading
  7. Re-enable networking.
  8. Download and install Calibre. 7.13.0 from https://download.calibre-ebook.com/7.13.0/. This version is known working and all efforts I found used Windows so I went with the msi (SHA256 7c1b57b6f55076cc646a30eb6394ec00df18be373c3badf80d7ee39152ccffda
) since this install exists solely to strip DRM before I then add them to my Calibre-Web server.
  9. Launch Calibre and install the KFX Input plugin from the built in plugin manager
  10. Separately download the 10.0.9 version of the DeDRM plugin (newer may work but, again, lazy) from https://github.com/noDRM/DeDRM_tools/releases/download/v10.0.9/DeDRM_tools_10.0.9.zip. SHA256 of d46e7ff94a46dc871eb9b7e639e6da1883823cd5a9d705d53f51bd9c251aabda
  11. Launch Kindle, login, and download whatever you want to strip DRM from. I did run into some weirdness where I had an exclamation point after logging in but restarting the k4pc app allowed me to download books.
  12. In Calibre, add all the books you downloaded by clicking and dragging the .azw file from Explorer to the Calibre window. You must do this from the downloaded directory as DeDRM is dependent on metadata in the same directory. This can be automated using a batch script pretty trivially.
  13. Then convert them to a non azw3 format (mobi if you are putting it back on a Kindle. epub otherwise).
  14. And then all the epub files in your Calibre library should have had DRM removed and be ready to import into your real Calibre library (or in a random folder on your computer)

Update (so someone tell that dipshit who steals guides to upload his copy):

Looks like Amazon have blocked sufficiently old versions of k4pc from downloading ebooks now. Unclear exactly what the criteria are. Some people think it is any book published after Apr 22 2025. Others (self included) have noticed it applies to purchases after that. My suspicion is that different publishers have different deals with Amazon and their cutoffs are based on that.

So either way: The above is mostly useless now. Yay.

Hello All. Just thought people might like to know, Torrent Galaxy (torrentgalaxy.one) is still operational and torrents have been added as recent as two days ago. Don't know if this is a "new" domain or something which will eventually disappear but "get 'em while they're hot" if you can't live without something from there.

Nintendo's own Public Relations (PR) department has issued today an email to several outlets and partners regarding a ruling from the French Supreme Court against the french hosting website 1fichier.com.

Within the contents of that email, Nintendo states that the French Supreme Court ruled in their favour on February 26th against 1fichier due to the website being known for hosting pirated content from Nintendo, holding 1fichier liable for failing to provide proper anti-piracy measures after Nintendo previously notified and demanded DSTORAGE, the operators behind 1fichier, to take the pirated content down.

Additionally, 1fichier (and any other French or European hosting website) should remove or block access to illegal content, and if the provider fails to do so, the hoster will be held liable to pay compensation to the right holders from whose copyright has been infringed, closing with the statement that "sharehosting providers like 1fichier are not a safe heaven for storing and sharing illegal content".

The full email is here:

Tap for spoilerFRENCH SUPREME COURT RULES FOR NINTENDO AGAINST HOSTING OF ILLEGAL CONTENT ON MAJOR FRENCH SHAREHOSTER

Supreme Court puts an end to 1fichier's long history of non-compliance and confirms standards for legal sharehosting in France March 4th, 2025 In a decision dated February 26th, 2025, and in accordance with the decision of the Paris Court of Appeals dated April 12th, 2023, the highest French judiciary Court repeats it: DSTORAGE SAS, operating the "1fichier.com" website, is liable for failing to remove or block access to unauthorised copies of Nintendo games stored on this platform, despite notifications from Nintendo demanding DSTORAGE to take down pirate content.

The decision is final and puts an end to a long lawsuit. Sharehosting services on French soil and in Europe, such as 1fichier.com, must promptly remove or block access to illegal content and, failing that, are liable to pay compensation to those rights holders whose intellectual property rights are infringed.

Nintendo is pleased with the Court's finding of liability against DSTORAGE and believes that it is significant not only for Nintendo, but for the entire games industry. It will prevent sharehosters like 1fichier.com from claiming like it did during the proceedings on the merits that a prior decision from a court is needed before pirated content must be taken down, and it confirms the rights that holders have to give notice of when claiming that notified content infringes copyright or trademark rights.

Together with its recent decision of January 15th, 2025, confirming that a major French Bank had rightfully terminated a payment processing agreement with 1fichier.com due to lacking anti-piracy measures, the French Supreme Court leaves no doubt that sharehosting providers like 1fichier.com are not a safe haven for storing and sharing illegal content.

Nintendo promotes and fosters development and creativity, and strongly supports developers who legitimately create new and innovative software. Nintendo's message to consumers is not to download pirate copies of Nintendo games as this increases the risk that this will interfere with the functionality and experience that playing legitimate Nintendo games on authentic Nintendo hardware provides.

Stolen from mastodon

Their caption "look, it's all my favorite streaming services on one platform!" Is probably better than mine lol

I already have the latest 'bypass paywall' clean installed , but I'm finding one of two things lately : either some previous bypassed sites are becoming subject to restrictions or some recently accessible sites are now restricted.

Case in point: Vox.

When I try to read any articles on the site now , I keep getting blocked by a popup that tells me to become a paid member.

The site use to take pride in being (mostly) free but now it appears to be (mostly) paid.

Is there anyway of getting around this?

thanks

Well, After hundreds of GB of torrents downloaded, I slipped up. I've been changing around linux distros recently and i believe i configured my VPN wrong or forgot to turn it back on after doing something. Well, I finally got hit with a copyright warning. Just your typical "we had to send this" type of warning but none-the-less, I slipped up.

Sharing this because the day before it happened, I read a post about not only having your killswitch on but also binding your client to you vpn interface for situations like this. Needless to say I didn't take that precaution. For those who are on linux, I found a great post about how to set this up on reddit and wanted to remind people to "double wrap" because why not be safe lol.

The steps were more or less as follows (for QBitTorrent at least):

  1. Tools -> Preferences -> Advanced Settings

  2. Under "Network Interface", select your vpn interface. To test, check what shows with your vpn on, and then turn it off and re-navigate to this part to see what dissapeared. Thats likely your vpn interface if the name wasn't clear. (Do not be seeding/downloading torrents while doing this in case).

  3. To test, download a non-copyright torrent like the Ubuntu ISO torrent. In the middle of download, disconnect or close your vpn connection. This should stop the download.

Not sure if reddit links are cool here but here is the guide source if anyones interested. Binding VPN to Torrent Client

I know it's probably because there's money to be made.

I just wish there was a good place to discuss IPTV providers that wasn't full of sketchy resellers over promising and under delivering. You'd think they could at least sort out their EPGs as most I have used are like 80% complete at best.

Not asking for provider recommendations, not sure if that's allowed here. Just wondering if y'all know of a place where that shit can be discussed in a neutral and honest environment?

Is there somewhere to go to get audio dramas? Specifically looking for things on Pocket FM, such as My Vampire System.

I want to start releasing my own music and have no interest in the corporate streaming platforms. I have only a basic conceptual understanding of torrenting but it seems to me like a nice way of sharing my music with people directly.

What do I need to do and consider in order to make a music release freely available in this way?

Currently my knowledge and experience is limited to using an application on my computer to search for and download files from others but I'm willing to learn.

Any advice or signposting much appreciated :)

Hello, recently I've been on the hunt for a private music tracker to populate my Lidarr Instance, I've found REDacted and Orpheus quite appealing, but they're "hard" to get into and are mostly for audiophiles.

I'm not an audiophile (more like a brokeyphile) and I don't want to wait 3-5 weeks on something I'll be just seeding instead of being active, do y'all have any recommendations? All I can offer is seeding 24/7 and a few proofs that I have good ratios

Does anyone know the best places I can find add-ons in the Minecraft Bedrock Marketplace? The Bluecoin telegram groups I was in were hit with copyright takedowns. It appears some related subreddits have also been taken down so I’m finding it pretty difficult to gather any information.

I'm new around here, so I'd appreciate some context if anyone knows...

What are the legal ramifications of discussing piracy online?
What are the lines in the sand one should not cross? What do you do to make sure you stay safe out there?

I know linking to specific pirated content is against the communities rules so that seems like an obvious no no.

So i was installing a repack on my linux system, using bottles because of its flatpak sandbox.

As the install was wrapping, it asked the standard question about redirecting the websites, I (probably thinking nothing will happen) didn't uncheck anything, and to my surprise, it opened the Firefox browser on my main system and launched the website: giving me quite the spook

doesn't this mean that anything i install on bottles can somehow still ping home even if I disable networking from Flatseal?

am I being paranoid or is this a serious security flaw?

Currently I'm using a VPS on Hertzer hosted in Singapore. I might try to torrent movies and games or maybe download videos in bulk using yt-dlp from youtube or maybe even porn. I want to know if its a good idea or should I use a paid vpn inside my VPS. If there is a better alternative like another VPS provider who ignores DMCA notices and stuff, do suggest. I also sync some folders using syncthing. So its kind of a mixed use. I don't know much about networking and stuff, so hopefully nothing too complicated. Thanks in advance.

I have been lurking on this community for a while now and have really enjoyed the informational and instructional posts but a topic I don't see come up very often is scaling and hoarding. Currently, I have a 20TB server which I am rapidly filling and most posts talking about expanding recommend simply buying larger drives and slotting them in to a single machine. This definitely is the easiest way to expand, but seems like it would get you to about 100TB before you cant reasonably do that anymore. So how do you set up 100TB+ networks with multiple servers?

My main concern is that currently all my services are dockerized on a single machine running Ubuntu, which works extremely well. It is space efficient with hardlinking and I can still seed back everything. From different posts I've read, it seems like as people scale they either give up on hardlinks and then eat up a lot of their storage with copying files or they eventually delete their seeds and just keep the content. Does the Arr suite and Qbit allow dynamically selecting servers based on available space? Or are there other ways to solve these issues with additional tools? How do you guys set up large systems and what recommendations would you make? Any advice is appreciated from hardware to software!

Also, huge shout out to Saik0 from this thread: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/24219297 I learned a ton from his post, but it seemed like the tip of the iceberg!

Hi, I use Cricfy TV app in my android phone but I'd like to use something similar in my Windows PC as well. Is there any app like that? If not, what would be a good Android emulator for Windows?
