This was an unexpectedly fascinating technical read. Admittedly, I'm "watching" baseball so take my definition of fascinating with a grain of salt.

I finished a flick at film fest, jumped into a local bar and joined in just in time to watch the Clement out and then Gausman load the bases.

Apologies if I jinxed this.

Edit: Thank you Varland for making me feel much less guilty!

Ha, that is totally fair and probably a better read of the Fediverse.

Yeah, that was a wild drive at the end by Garland! I dunno, I kinda want him on the third line to help out Cootes and let Lekkerimaki do his thing on the second...

Oh my, now that's a reference I've not seen in some time! Damn Lemmings was the shit!

Sure, just like literally everything comparing reality to the counter-factual this involves estimates. Not a particularly profound or useful observation.

I think you're going to get yelled at and I apologize in advance.

It's a fair question, there's a lot of reckless claims made these days.

That being said, depending on how bad things get, yeah. Some incredibly populous places will be directly and heavily affected (1.21 billion currently in sub Saharan Africa alone.) Add in the conflicts over diminishing resources (think crop failures, droughts etc) as well as knock on effects (eg, increased range/spread of malaria.)

Heck, climate change has barely gotten started and I'd bet we're into millions dead already (compared to a non warning world) consider how many thousands have been lost to extreme events like floods, fires and heat waves.

Now that's a sound I've not heard in a long time...

Clear evidence it's time to burn it down, trade everyone for scraps and start over.

Hey there! One small thought, I imagine there are going to be a lot of bandwagon folks who will be interested this Saturday! You might consider a crosspost to c/Toronto or even on the main /canada communities? If I didn't have plans on Saturday, I'd be pretty curious about watching my first full baseball game on tv (I've only ever watched live or playing) and making it known there's a large game day thread or something might help folks stumble upon the community.

Just some unsolicited thoughts. (Hopefully I'll see you fine folks here for at least a few games this post season, apologies in advance for the dumb questions!)

I think one of their goalies was the backup but by the time he played, we were up a hundred goals or whatever so...

Yeah, Cootes has been great. Super curious what they do with him. Even if he goes to the AHL instead of OHL, that seems pretty cool. (Obviously, coolest is straight to the NHL but I'm also a little worried. He'd be down on the 4th line or so, means he's more likely playinf against big bruisers as a not huge 18 year old...)
