careful out there hosers - lyme disease will fuk you up

it will take a long time to diagnose, and during that time you will be miserable, and the longer it takes for diagnosis, the more likely it will be a permanent, chronic infection

As someone who grew up in a place that has had Lyme since the 1980s (VA) we really need to improve access to testing and treatment here in Ontario given our climate now is similar to Virginia’s back then.

If you find a tick on your self Peel the thing of and find a local lab and send it out to get tested for Lyme. This way you can tell with in the week and start treatment aspa.

Hardly any lyme in the upper midwest, it's mostly on the east coast, idk about the west, I know they've that other lone star whatever disease too.

Most Canadians live in the east. In either case, I wouldn't be the one to risk not checking.

I'm below Ontario which is the most populous province last I heard.

upper midwest

Then you should know this doesn't sit below the most populous part of Ontario.

You can just call them Americans.

The word "tick" is very important here.

You can't fight crime with a macaroni duck.

Found a tick on my dog last year after going to the normal park, good reminder to give your pet their tick meds.

I'm not terribly far from the border, and the ticks are always bad up here in spring to early summer, until it dries out. Not the smaller deer ticks that spread lyme though.

When the ticks go away, the deer flies come, and they are worse. Constantly landing on the top of your head for no other reason than they can. There is no respite from them outside.

[–] Mpatch@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Nah the deer flies have a reason..... they try to hide in your hair and have a snack of blood.

[–] argarath@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Y'know, I have never been fond of wearing hats, but I would wear them every single second if I had deer flies nearby

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

It's not a very good reason, very few try to actually bite your head. I mean house flies are the worse for lack of reason to harrass us, but the deer flies here are super super aggressive in the peak summer months, like constant mobbing, few bites, just fucking with you for the most part.

Can we find a way for ticks to stop existing?

[–] Rcklsabndn@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

We need to breed a race of Super Possums, although Possums are pretty super already.

What about the MAGA invasion?
