The California Highway Patrol reported a fatal two-vehicle crash that took place in Bishop last Saturday, at US 395 near Steward Lane.
According to the CHP, at approximately 1:25 p.m., the 64-year-old male driver of a 2005 Toyota Sienna, heading south on US 395 away from Steward Lane, made a sudden left turn across the solid double yellow lines dividing the northbound and southbound lanes of the highway.
Traveling northbound toward Steward Lane at a speed of 45 to 55 miles per hour was a 2024 Kenworth truck whose driver attempted to swerve to the right while applying the brakes to avoid crashing with the Sienna. However, the Sienna struck the front of the Kenworth, and its driver, a resident of Independence, suffered fatal injuries, a CHP media release said.
The 41-year-old driver of the Kenworth and his 51-year-old passenger, both males from Seneca, Mo., suffered minor injuries, the CHP said.
No arrests were made, and the crash is still under investigation by the Bishop Area California Highway Patrol.
