Miller and his wife, podcaster Katie Miller, appear to have quietly fled the neighborhood in recent weeks. Neighbors say they were spotted moving out, and the house officially hit the market on October 7, according to ARLnow. The exit comes after several rounds of peaceful chalk protests on the sidewalk outside their home, with messages like “Stephen Miller is destroying democracy,” “stop the kidnapping,” and “no white nationalism” scrawled in bold letters.

While the chalk eventually washed away, the tension apparently didn’t. Katie Miller lashed out on social media: “To the ‘Tolerant Left’ who spent their day trying to intimidate us in the house where we have three young children: We will not back down. We will not cower in fear. We will double down. Always, For Charlie.”

“To the ‘Tolerant Left’ who spent their day trying to intimidate us in the house where we have three young children: We will not back down. We will not cower in fear. We will double down. Always, For Charlie.”

Ok. Who wants to help unravel this because it is a doozy.

  • Tolerant Left: I guess we are back to emotional appeals and centralism? That ship has sailed, Fascist.

  • Intimidate us in the house where they have three young children: crazy that they think this is acceptable for minorities.

  • Double down: you didn't and won't need us to do something you would always do. Double down would mean staying at home. Stephen Miller I am sure has around the clock security.

  • Charlie: Is this an a reference from the attack by the conservative Mormon community? How odd. Perhaps he is suggesting Mormons are intimidating him with chalk messages on the sidewalk?

also "will not cower in fear" *runs away after a peaceful protest

[–] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 36 points 1 month ago (7 children)

I guess it's technically true since they fled in (irrational) fear.

People with chalk: "Please stop doing what you're doing. It's objectively wrong and we don't like it."

The Millers: "Help! We're under attack! Run away! Run away! Flee for your lives!"

People with chalk: "Whoa, what's in this stuff?"

Arlington is well known for their large and extremely violent Mormon population.

"We will not back down. We will not cower in fear."

Leaves town in fear.

Stephen Miller went a step further, calling the chalk messages “terroristic threats” during an appearance on The Sean Hannity Show. The home listing paints a very different picture from the chaos the Millers described: six bedrooms, 6.5 baths, and “luxury living at its finest,” all wrapped in “comprehensive security.” What’s less clear is how a man with no private-sector resume, no known business ventures, and no discernible talent outside of writing xenophobic policy memos, ended up in a multimillion-dollar property in one of Arlington’s wealthiest enclaves.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

six bedrooms, 6.5 baths

“A home without at least one bathroom for each day of the week is just a hovel.”

– The Millers, probably

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

There was nothing that could be considered a threat in those messages at all.

Unless you consider anyone you don't know knowing where you live a threat. Which is true of absolutely everywhere on the planet if you ever order a delivery of any kind. You almost certainly don't know your UPS, FedEx, or Amazon delivery drivers, and they obviously have your name and address.

No idea where they got the idea I'm tolerant. I am the exact fucking opposite of tolerant.

Reminds me of my MAGA neighbor calling the cops on me because I called him a fascist and his wife a fat, froggy, little Nazi.

Confront these people. Their little echo chambers tell them their behavior and flags are normal. Show your fucking disapproval.

You, YOU! I like you. Carry on.

Bro was scared off by some innocent, very mild chalk writing? lol Writing the most bland, generic, milquetoast things imaginable on the sidewalk is not meant to intimidate, Katie. If they wanted to intimidate you and your husband, they would have come with something much more substantial than that.

"We will not back down!!"

(immediately leaves and puts their house up for sale. )

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago (4 children)

He's probably been getting death threats too. I mean, he honestly should be.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradox_of_tolerance

The paradox of tolerance is a philosophical concept suggesting that if a society extends tolerance to those who are intolerant, it risks enabling the eventual dominance of intolerance, thereby undermining the very principle of tolerance.

[–] KelvarCherry@lemmy.blahaj.zone 42 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Queer kids endure slurs hurled at them by groups of adults holding "God Hates F-gs" signs; while Stephen Miller sees two requests and one opinion written in chalk and sells his house. Tell me you grew up in a gated community without telling me you grew up in a gated community.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 34 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Why do they keep assuming we are tolerant?

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 21 points 1 month ago

We are tolerant. Tolerance doesn't tolerate intolerance, because that's would be intolerant.

People should keep chalking until Miller is holed up inside a bunker. Then circle it with chalk and salt, so that he can't ever leave his crypt.

Talks big on social media about not backing down and then backs down and flees.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So, they're going to "double down" on the kidnappings, destroying democracy, and white nationalism...for Charlie?

[–] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Charlie, the "Christian" and "Martyr" who advocated against feeding the poor, healing the sick and welcoming the immigrant? That Charlie?

Yes, I think it's completely on brand for them to do exactly that. Anyone who can read quotes of Jesus from the Bible and twist them into this kind of agenda has long since abandoned evidence, objectivity, empiricism and rationalism.

They're just shouting nonsense in Elizabethan English at this point because it sounds Bibley to them. I'm not joking. I have heard people say things that way that are definitely not in the Bible. Not that the Bible should be dictating law.

I'm just pointing out that they're not applying a coherent, good-faith doctrine. They're just doing what they want and trying to stretch the flag and the Bible to cover their wrongdoing.

Matthew 25:35-40

English Standard Version

35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,[a] you did it to me.’

They are fully anti-Christian, and so are the people who follow them. Again, this isn't about Christianity or even religion. I'm pointing out that we have passed the point of hypernormalization, and people are violating their own dogmas to deal with the cognitive dissonance.

Hahahahah what a couple of insecure frightened little fuckwits.

These assholes don't say a thing when other people stand up to their right wing snowflake bullshit and get inundated with death threats or actually get attacked. But a little bit of chalk and these hypocrites get all "oh woe is me and my poor widdle childwen"

How about don't be human garbage. Their children deserve better.

He's afraid of chalk? Is this some kind of obscure vampire weakness or something?

[–] plz1@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Selling your house is kind of case in point for cowering in fear, IMO.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Why would you feel intimidated if you aren’t a nazi?

[–] Tigeroovy@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 month ago

They wanna say they're gonna double down "for Charlie", well I hope they'll receive the same kind of pushback he did.
