I came from reddit. If people hadn't talked about Lemmy there, I might never have come here. So I think discussing censorship of Lemmy is relevant. Whether we can do something about it, is another question.

Same, and I feel like there's a sort of culture and language commonality that extends beyond the similarities of format. No one came to Lemmy from FB posts, you know?

What's your opinion on pineapple on pizza?

[–] finitebanjo@piefed.world 15 points 1 month ago

They've obviously already chosen Lemmy, but they have no strong feelings about if people do or do not talk about reddit.

[–] finitebanjo@piefed.world 14 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I take this meme to imply that you're cursed by a witch to fight her enemies even in death while you yourself are an unwilling participant?

[–] roserose56@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago

Sure, what ever you said. I didn't understand the last part.

[–] lurch@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

not sure which of the many witch comms this refers to. maybe !witches@lemmy.ml ?

[–] finitebanjo@piefed.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's from the movie that the screencap is from, Sleepy Hollow 1999.

[–] lurch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

i know, i just mean in this case the witch must be in favor of lemmy and is therefore probably in one of the witch communities.

I can say with certainty that it's tiresome finding much of my all feed is covered with repost bots from reddit.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I've been reposting old shit from reddit. Sorry to have contributed to the problem

[–] drrodneymckay_@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Are you posting it to start conversation here or only linking to reddit? None of these bot posts have and community involvement. I don't have a problem with things exiting in both places, nor do I mind a return of old content. Especially with things being deleted or hidden on reddit. Nostalgia can bring new ideas and conversations as understanding changes over time.

These bots just feel like advertisements for reddit. Look what you can see if you come over here....

[–] Skavau@piefed.social 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Do you mean actual bots or people directly taking from reddit?

[–] drrodneymckay_@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Legit bots that just watch reddit communities and then link to the reddit post. If I was looking for the reddit post I would be on reddit.

If you want to support the community by spreading something you found to be fun, that's great. More power to you. Wish I had the time to share what I find enjoyable, but it's just not a priority for me right now.

And even in the case of a bot, I would feel OK if they linked to the original content and the started the thread with a initial comment along the lines of "more conversation happening over on reddit." with a link. I'm not looking for a link chain.

Oh. I believe there's one instance that does that and I think it's been heavily defederated.

The only other bots I know are the ones on ibbit.at that scrape news sites.

My shit is just old memes that I thought might be out of the discourse long enough to be fresh again here. I definitely won't be linking to that shithole

[–] teft@piefed.social 2 points 1 month ago

Block them one by one and your feed will be much better. That’s what i did.

Some y'all act like reddit is your evil ex who royally fucked you over.

[–] SnoringEarthworm@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I can empathize with people who've had their internet homes serially enshittified by capitalism.

For some of us, Reddit was the first time this happened.

For some us, Reddit was the last straw.

I just hope the Fediverse is sufficiently enshittification-resistant that I don't have to move again.

I was hurt being permabanned after 12-years. But when I got away a minute, I realized how the site was gradually turning me off with the bot replies and posts, all the same predictable replies, can't get a word in edgewise unless the post is 2-mintues old, hive mind.

Reminds of coming home from work and finding the house trashed, wife and kids gone. I was hurt for 2 days then, "Wow. I'm a peace for the first time in years. Forgot what this was like."

[–] maam@feddit.uk 5 points 1 month ago

Reddit is projecting.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I thought this was Jon Snow until I expanded the thumbnail.

[–] xylogx@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You think if everyone came over from Reddit, Lemmy would become just ad bad as Reddit is today?

[–] roserose56@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nope, because we lots of advantages over here, and the first one is no bots promoting agenda or fake comments about that time something happen.

[–] xylogx@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What would stop the bots from coming too?

[–] roserose56@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago

Not the ones posting live feed, matches etc. but the one used to manipulate stories and stuff around the world.
