Admins can see everything. That's how a database works.

[–] joyjoy@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Petition to get Lemmy and PieFed devs to e2e encrypt all user settings.

[–] Sunshine@piefed.ca 4 points 2 months ago

It's the blockbox of the instance.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 26 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Can they see blocks of individual users? Can we get a top 10 most blocked, unbanned users?

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 31 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They can see everything in the database. So yes.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 10 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Would it be unethical to publish some novel stats that wouldn't be available to users?

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 21 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

In my opinion, probably yes. If that information being made public is likely to make people feel uncomfortable, then its probably unethical.

[–] BurgerBaron@piefed.social 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Unless they were contacted and gave their consent. That's a lot of unpaid work tho.

Yes, indeed that’s a lot of work. My block list is looooooooooooooong.

[–] RickyRigatoni@retrolemmy.com 4 points 2 months ago

Not only do I believe this to be ethical, but I demand a ticker on the top of every page that alerts us every time someone blocks something. Imagine just seeing "Rickyrigatoni@retrolemmy.com has blocked rickyrigatoni@lemmy.ml" five hundred times because I keep blocking and unblocking my alts to annoy the entire fediverse. My utopia...

Oh, I was hoping it would be one of the spicier posters.

[–] CaptainBasculin@lemmy.bascul.in 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

As a solo instance owner, yes that's correct; I do see which instances I block.

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

… shit, I might be about to stand up my own instance

[–] Hansae@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ive been cobsidering it for a while as well, I have my own domains and a server. Will probs do it when I get paid and can afford a few HDDs

[–] bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Get SSDs. Lemmy is heavy as fuck. I wish Piefed had existed when I set up my instance.

[–] Hansae@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago

Both, nearly always advantageous to use SSDs as a cache pool with the heavy storage on HDDs.

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 13 points 2 months ago

No way, the admin of a site can see stuff?

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Meh, I just blocked all the porn. Don’t want that coming up while scrolling at work!

[–] tired_n_bored@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I just disabled all NSFW stuff

[–] DaGeek247@fedia.io 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That actually does a pretty great job of getting rid of the explicit stuff. (Thanks for tagging your stuff, porn magazines!)

It does nothing for the just as NSFW anime magazines.

[–] tired_n_bored@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Oh right, I just outright blocked these instances lol

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Job 1: block all the anime comms.

Yeah, yes that’s great, over there please. Thank you. Over there.

Christ there’s so many. . .

[–] xXcrystalXx@piefed.world 1 points 2 months ago

lemmy.world federates nsfw instances?

[–] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 2 months ago

Unfortunately, there's a lot of NSFW that's not porn that I do want to see. Typically just some text.

On the other hand, spam bots seem to always mark their posts NSFW for some reason.

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 18 points 2 months ago

I don’t! My workplace hates fun.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I mean, it's free and probably faster to just make an extra account that you don't use at work if that's your only issue 🤷

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago

Well, yeah, but I’m not going to talk openly about my porn account :p

[–] umbraroze@piefed.social 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Well shit's on them. I don't block instances. I mentally scorn them.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I don’t block instances.

I tend to block instances that block me, because I find it annoying to see an instance on the front page that I'm expected to look at but not allowed to interact with.

[–] umbraroze@piefed.social 6 points 2 months ago

Fair enough. In that case, the fact that you block them should come as no surprise to them.

Unlike me! No instance shall know whom I place my scorn on! No instance! Never! Muaha ha ha ha ha!!! Will they block me on account of these posts? Well now I have information on some fragile administrators! Haa ha ha haha haaa!

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You're getting blocked from entire instances?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If it wasn't the whole instance, it was one mod on a bunch of subs adding me to communities I'd never visited.

[–] null@lemmy.nullspace.lol 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

On which account? Not the one you're posting from

Edit: oh, or maybe your modlog just didn't federate back far enough

Since Lemmy is part of the Fediverse (public), I just figured everything was public such as votes and blocks.
