With windows 10 EOL on the horizon, I need steam OS to come out for desktop soon. I beg you lord Gaben. ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ

Try bazzite in the meantime.

[โ€“] AmosBurton_ThatGuy@lemmy.ca 23 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I've been on Bazzite for about a year now at this point and I love it. Everything just works for the most part, and the things that are more annoying can still be worked around easily enough.

Started dual booting CachyOS recently and am loving that as well. Definitely weird at first to use the terminal to install things but super satisfying once you get the hang of it. Feels slightly faster than Bazzite on my pc, I've been using it more often then Bazzite the past month or so.

But I definitely recommend Bazzite for anyone hesitasting about switching, it's a great OS and the Bazzite forums are friendly and helpful when you run into issues.

Yeah Bazzite is great for people that just want an easy to use, set it and forget it system.

So my tinkering is on the rack. I don't wanna tinker on my desktop. Bazzite has been a blessing.

[โ€“] warmaster@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Bazzite on my Desktop and Aurora on my laptop. Ublue is crazy good.

Bazzite is basically SteamOS for desktop. Linux is highly flexible in general though, it's not that important which one you pick most of the time.

I would also like to recommend Zorin for new Linux users, it's super easy to windows users to swap to and have a good experience.

Does Zorin develop their own tools/patches or what do they bundle as office and creative suite in their Pro version?

[โ€“] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

Here's a list of some of the software bundled, although it doesn't include everything as far as I know.

I don't personally use it, and I've been pretty hands off with my parent's installs of it after the initial setup, soi can't really answer either of those questions based on my personal experience of it.

I wish I could have protondb badges inside the desktop steam client.

Would be nice if this worked with linux in general.

[โ€“] als@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If you install Decky there's a plugin that does exactly this that can be installed from the plugin manager (https://github.com/OMGDuke/protondb-decky)

[โ€“] MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I want this on my desktop, and not just in big picture mode. I already know it can be done on the deck.

[โ€“] bathing_in_bismuth@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

So you want it in your desktop Steam client? I don't think that's possible but I think there are browser extensions that integrate ProtonDB on the Steam website if I remember correctly. Not ideal but worth looking into?

[โ€“] MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 year ago

Again. I know.

That's why I'm hoping steam would make their own thing that'll just always be there for linux users.

[โ€“] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There's a plugin for SteamOS that does this, I'm on Bazzite and it works very well.

[โ€“] MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 year ago

In desktop mode, on the desktop client, outside big picture mode?

Common valve W

[โ€“] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Now if only there was a way to report false steam deck compatibility badges

[โ€“] Corigan@lemm.ee 16 points 1 year ago (2 children)

You can't? Every time I play a game the library page gives me the option to weigh in if the rating was valid, and to leave feedback if it wasn't.

[โ€“] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think that only applies to still unfinished ratings. Once it's done, it's done

Gloomhaven for example doesn't launch at all. But there's no way to report this. Even the support couldn't help

[โ€“] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No, it will say something like "Valve's testing has this game rated as Steam Deck Verified. Does that match your experience?"

Some games have been delayed from verified because enough people responded "no".

[โ€“] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

yes. But I've never seen this on already verified games. There is no way to report "this game shouldn't be verified anymore. Or at least re-checked"

[โ€“] Fubarberry@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago

I get it all the time, usually after I play a new game for the first time. It will either say that Valve doesn't have info on this game yet and ask if it works or not, or it will ask me to confirm whether the existing verified rating is accurate or not.

It only asks one time per game in my experience, and I think you may have had to previously agree to provide feedback on the Steam Deck experience..

[โ€“] Midnitte@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

On Steam Deck there is, dont believe that shows up on Desktop

[โ€“] Ulrich@feddit.org 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Why would it ask you on desktop if the game was Steam Deck compatible?
