I just don't follow the logic. Let people waunder in to .ml and find out for themselves. Right now it just looks like the libs of .world are trying to censor .ml. What is .world so afraid of? Lemmygrad? That place is hilarious.
A warning isn't censorship...
But, let's work through the logic if you really don't get it.
Why would you warn your friend but not others in the MAGA convention example? (Maybe this is the key.)
It is censorship.
Why would I warn my friend? I know their preferences. Why wouldn't I warn the masses? I don't know or care about their preferences. Maybe they'd like .ml, who knows, let them find out on their own.
So, for most new people, we expect they also won't enjoy it. No one is stopping them, same way you aren't stopping your friend, just warning them. If they want to go play there or it appeals, nothing stops them.
But, warning people does help cut down on the "ugh, is this the fediverse? I don't like reddit but at least it's not that!"
No one is stopping them but it's polite to give a warning, same as we do for nsfw subs.
The vote ratio on my comments contradict the vote ratio on the post.
You're assuming preferences of strangers, not cool.
You are stopping them. You're telling new users to avoid that community, which is probably stopping many. Most people when visiting a new city would listen to someone who suggests avoiding a particular area.
You're worried about .ml scaring off fediverse users? The fediverse is a big place, with .world being the biggest. If they don't like .ml then they'll find .world. If you're right about .ml then let people find it, promote it even, and they'll bounce to .world if .ml is too mean.
Y'all making memes about nsfw subs? No, you're not.
Come on, you've got to know that's an absurd point.
And they are completely free to go to .ml . Do you not understand how censorship works?
Or they decide that the fediverse is an unpleasant experience and leave. (Remember, to new people coming from most social media, instances etc are completely new. So when they deal with .ml craziness, the first reaction is probably not "that instance isn't good" so much as "oh, this shitty reddit alternative has no content AND awful people? Reddit sucks but at least it ain't this fediverse bs.")
Really? You don't see how a commonly used and almost universal acronym like NSFW is different than a niche fediverse domain? That's an actual comparison you thought was a good point?
This is getting pretty silly, you've decided that making fun of .ml is censorship regardless of reality, meaning or anything else, so I don't really see any point in continuing.
Have a nice day though!
Omg you're not arguing in good faith, wasted so much of my time....
As always, people are weird and then act like you're the weirdo for being normal. OP is a shitheel with propaganda.
Thanks, I needed that
You're welcome. They seem to think they're doing a service while being a dipshit debate troll.
Damn big .world and their pernicious anti .ml propaganda!
Come on.
You're doing it again. You're not acting in good faith.
Maybe we have different interpretations of good faith.
I'm not going to keep responding if someone devolves into utter nonsense, e.g., complaining that we aren't making memes cautioning about NSFW communities.
No one is owed my time.
As your profile notes "I will assume good faith and intelligence until proven otherwise." Anyone can just type nonsense, it doesn't mean it deserves a reply.
Dude, your first point was conflating the post's general upvote ratio with your comment ratio. Then finished with "why aren't you meming about NSFW comms. That's just a pair of objectively nonsensical points.
If you're just going to spout silliness, why on Earth would I spend my time with you?
