I'm aware it's an unpopular opinion but I hate cars. I think they make a lot of people act like assholes. They pollute the air, the sound and the view. They kill thousands of people and millions of animals every year. They're everywhere and consume space like a cancer.
I moved in a pretty good city where I don't need a car, but streets are still choking with them, honking and revving their engines.
I dream of a walkable city or town where cars are treated like a thing to avoid, and people are provided with alternatives like public transit and secure cycling routes.
In fact, maybe some idiots shouldn't be encouraged by our society to drive a one ton lethal vehicle everywhere they go, and have other means of transportation. And no, a "car sharing app" doesn't count as public transit.
I think you'll like !fuck_cars@lemmy.ml
Thanks for the suggestion; I was already subscribed! In fact I left reddit and joined lemmy for those communities because some people on /r/fuckcars were carsplaining, and were telling me that I was too much against cars.
I wish I could do without a car but my commute to work via public transport would take 13 hours in each direction
Sorry. I wasn't asking why you need a car. Believe me when I say there are billions of people very eager to tell me, someone that won't drive, why I need a car, why they need it, and why everyone needs a car.
I have to have a car where I live. And while I love visiting city centers, I'm not spending my one life on this planet packed in like rats. Hell, half the lots in my hood were wooded and I'm not liking the dozens of new homes that went in over the past 5 years.
I'm no misandrist, not a bit, but as an old friend used to say, "I don't want to look out my window and see my neighbor eating breakfast."
You don't have to. If you think this has to be the way to live without cars, you're missing some information. It's perfectly possible to live in a town or village without a car, with public transit, train services, and bike paths. This is a myth that needs to die if we're going to try to shed just a little bit of our over dependency on cars.
EDIT: Anyway I'm not asking YOU to do it nor if it's possible. I live without a car. Millions also do. If you think they are all miserable being living in shoe boxes, it's your preconceptions.
