they are pretty much as delusional as conservatives.
They are conservatives. They want to conserve the USSR.
Given that conservatism is pretty much "what if we somehow conserved the power dynamics of the feudal era into democracy?", Stalinism is just conservatism, but with communism.
The irony there being that Putin doesn't want the USSR. He wants to go back to the Russian Empire. He's kind of open about that.

Unless you're refering to the notion that a large number of them are clearly roleplaying and "being edgy online" (Cuba is a democracy and has free elections! NK is a great place to live! Everything I don't like is BIA conspiracy!).
I think a large number of Threadiverse tankies are demagogues and are merely chimping out for the "edgy aesethic".
I’d imagine also, that a fair amount of them are conservatives just feeding the fire. Nothing helps them more than a fractured opposition.
