So I've been thinking of vigilantism writ-large. Wouldn't it be most prudent to remove billionaires with the most beneficiaries to ensure the most dilution of their wealth? We've seen the there's a huge Murdoch fight regarding the multiple heirs, shouldn't the concerned citizens create more upheaval like that?

Summary:

Economics correspondent Paul Solman is exploring the impact on communities in Massachusetts after a private equity firm bought struggling hospitals. In his second report, he looks at how private equity's increasing role in health care is affecting patients.

Excerpt:

Paul Solman:

So, now the key question, the results of private equity in health care.

Well, Dr. Song and associates have studied Medicare data of more than half-a-million patients in hospitals after private equity takeovers. Their findings?

Dr. Zirui Song:

On average, across the country, private equity acquisitions of hospitals have led to a roughly 25 percent increase in patient adverse events.

Paul Solman:

Really? Like what?

Dr. Zirui Song:

This was driven by an increase in central line-associated bloodstream infections and an increase in patient falls, as well as doubling roughly of surgical side infections relative to a control group or comparison group of hospitals that looked like the private equity hospitals, but were not acquired by private equity firms.

The majority of this money has come from small donations from regular people. Small glimmer of hope in a dark moment. Maybe we can push back against “legal” corporate genocide of the working class and win. [

A proposed California ballot initiative, named after alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO killer Luigi Mangione, has been recently submitted to the California Attorney General’s Office.

The initiative would make it illegal for an insurance company to “delay, deny or modify any medical procedure or medication” suggested by a licensed physician in the Golden State, which could have serious consequences such as “disability, death, amputation, permanent disfigurement, loss or reduction of any bodily function,”

New York, March 19, 2025 – The official X account of Luigi Mangione, the man accused of the high-profile killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has been deactivated, as reported by Pop Flop on Wednesday at 6:41 p.m. ET. The move has sparked widespread speculation and renewed attention on Mangione, who has become a polarizing figure in recent months.

The deactivation of Mangione’s X account, previously verified and active under the handle @pepmangione, was confirmed by Pop Flop with images showing an error message stating, “Something went wrong. Try again.” It remains unclear whether Mangione or his representatives deactivated the account or if X took action due to platform policies or public pressure. Earlier reports, including from theJasmineBRAND, noted the account’s brief deactivation and subsequent reactivation in December 2024, only to now appear permanently offline.
