UW-Madison police arrested two Fitchburg men accused of attacking and sexually assaulting a transgender woman near the Union Terrace early Saturday, according to police and a friend of the victim.

Deliberately provocative title here, and I'm not going to go on record making a prediction, but I just have a bad feeling about it. The persistent bugbear on the Democratic side is voter turnout. Hong had momentum and energy, with the potential to drive strong turnout of the progressive and Democratic base. By the AP numbers I saw, she had majority support through much of the state, while Crowley won with a majority of Milwaukee voters. Which is to be expected, as that's where the biggest chunk of our population lives. But also, Milwaukee has historically had soft Democratic voter turnout.

Voters there chose him in the primary; will they show up for the general election?

These "detention centers" are concentration camps.

For legal reasons I am not recommending donating blood and then going drinking with friends. Incidentally, did you know that intoxication, or blood alcohol concentration (BAC) is measured by (mass alcohol) / (total blood volume)?

Wisconsin Watch's coverage of the WisDems convention in Madison this past weekend. No paywall.

In my opinion the framing of this as a "classic debate" further highlights the repeated failure of the democratic party to understand* that they need to court people who are apathetic; in other words people who don't typically vote rather than attempt to target "centrist" voters who in theory might vote for either party. As showcased by Harris' campaign, this alienates progressives and others who are left of center.

*to rescind the benefit of the doubt, this is not a failure to understand but a deliberate tactic by controlled opposition to continue to force the overton window right.

This Thursday, May 28 at 8:00 PM, student musicians from Watertown High School will perform their "banned" concert piece, A Mother of A Revolution!, at the Barrymore Theater in Madison, WI. This piece centers Marsha Johnson, the stonewall LGBTQ+ activist, which is largely why the piece was banned.

These brave students are facing backlash and safety concerns in their hometown just for using their voices. They need to see what it looks like when a community stands with them. Lakeside Pride and Pride Bands Alliance are stepping in, and we need your help!

Here is how you can support them:

  • 🎵 PERFORM: Need musicians to fill the parts! Sign up by 5 PM TOMORROW (Wed, May 27) to play alongside them. ➡️ Sign-Up Link
  • 🎟️ ATTEND: Pack the house and show your support! Tickets here
  • 💰 DONATE: Help finance travel and equipment. Please dedicate your gift to "Watertown HS" here)

this whole thing was a fiasco with no clear direction to go in and very little benefit presented. the fact it failed is not a surprise to me.

The mPing app is a user-reported weather service that is then made public for things like tornado touch down, power lines down, hail, severe rain, roof damage, flooding, etc.

I was looking for a free way to see what people are actually experiencing around WI, since the weather reporting has not been as accurate lately. Many apps are paid, but this one is funded through a university.

I have not yet reported anything myself, so please tell me if you have experience with mPing. I see others reporting as the weather evolves, so it must work on some capacity.

Stay safe out there folks.
